I have
Zone alarm (free version)
Avast anti-virus (works very well and it's free)
Adaware (free version).
I also have spybot and hijack this to run if necessary.
I don't believe in running to many programs as they can conflict with one another"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
1) Use my router's built-in firewall.
2) Don't use TCP/IP for my local network.
3) Zone Alarm Pro on my main machine.
4) NOD32 for anti-virus
5) Ad Aware
6) Spybot
7) Opera for my browser
8) Backup to external hard drive weekly; to DVD monthly

Yes don't touch Norton with a barge pole - it is truly dreadful and not very good at what it is meant to do.
eg Last year a colleages PC had TEN infections and yes we use Norton at work.
The best BAR NONE is NOD32 - just Google for it

Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Do you pay for it or do you use the free version? I will do whatever is best : )0

If you are assking me and are asking about nOD32 there isn't a free version (well maybe a trial version) no go for the paid and , if you decide to go for NOD32, decide for yourself whether to go for 1/2/3 year licence.
Good luck

Practically all other anti-viral products require that you pay to continue receiving updates, but in return you also get technical support and, in some cases, a more effective product. Here are a few of the best as determined at av-comparitives.org in the last few months:0 -

Sorry should also have mentioned though that Norton has the reputation of being VERY difficult to remove from systems - you may even have to go into the registry to remove it.
You should remove 1 AV product before installing a nother
Happy Christmas to all.

this is a way of blocking known spyware sites :-
there is a file here
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
that will replace yours if it is corrupt and offer additional blocking against dodgy sites
Download: hosts.zip [right-click - Select: Save Target As] b]Updated 12-28-05[/b
This download includes a simple batch file (mvps.bat) that will rename the existing HOSTS file (HOSTS.MVP) then copy the included HOSTS file to the proper location. For more information please see the readme.txt included in the download.
If you are having trouble downloading or extracting the HOSTS fileurl="http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm"]click here[/url
Note: the below locations are for the default paths, edit as needed.
Windows XP=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K=C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Win 98/ME=C:\WINDOWS
if you have spybot, if you change to Advanced mode than look under tools , then click on "Hosts" there is an option to add Spybots Hosts list which does the same thingEx forum ambassador
