Seems strange that he's selling as a spares or repair as it's got no MOT, but he's more than happy to stick it through an MOT if you pay for it.

If he's got no problems MOTing it for the winning bidder, why not MOT it and sell it with 12 months ticket.

    Thats exactly what I'm thinking.
A shopping trolley with 12 months ticket would sell for nearer £1000, so I'm guessing he knows the price to get an MOT is going to be more than £50.

Also, even if it passes the MOT, stuff like the clutch, belts, gearbox could all be about to blow, and you'll be left paying for scrap.

Edit - If it does turn out to be a bollock, even with an MOT, you're legally stuck with it as seller adveristed it as spares/repair

Also, "I told the seller I only wanted it if it was mot (at my expense)." Was this verbal or written?

You won't be getting £1k for a megane coupe even with a 12 month ticket - we couldn't get rid of a late 1999 for £500 with full mot so ended up giving it to a member of the family. If it goes through it's mot and lasts another 12 months it'll have been worth the money really, you'll still get £150 scrap for it.

With cars on eBay you can just walk if you don't like it so you don't need it to be written. Although he did as the question on there if he's have it MOT'ed and it's on the auction page.

What does he mean by paid for first?

Does he expect the buyer to stump up the cost of the MOT before its tested?
  • i think so.
If it fails then the buyer is in the position where they've paid £45 for an MOT, so do they pay for the repairs on top of the price of the car or do they then write off the MOT money.
  • He's asked for £100 which will cover the deposit and mot. He's also said if it doesn't pass he'll email me. I then sent him "
Ok that's fine with me. But before we proceed I want to let you know deal is subject to the car having 12 months mot and passing a hpi check. That ok?"

If he won't agree to this I'll not be going ahead with the deal, as I made it clear prior to bidding that (if I won) I'd want 12 months mot. And judging by his ad it will "fly through it".

I wouldn't pay more than £50 deposit (unless you've already agreed it) - this will cover the cost of him putting it through the mot and is near enough 10% of the purchase cost.

So if it doesn't pass he'll email you to tell you that your £100 down. That's good of him.

These age Renaults are notorious for problems, if you get a good one, you have a good one, if you get a dog, like most are, well your hand will never be out of your pocket.

I told the seller I only wanted it if it was mot (at my expense).

That to me alone says that you'll foot the complete cost of the MOT. You should of been a lot more clearer, unless you were and have only gave us a snippet...

The whole thing sounds extremely complicated, although he wouldn't of got much if any more for it with a full MOT anyway.

He's in the 'trade' so aquiring an MOT won't be hard for him.
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.
