  • When someone lists a car for sale with no MOT or an MOT about to expire, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is going to fail.
  • good morning all, just thought i would keep all of you upto date,i took the car for mot this morning and it passed only needing two new bulbs,it now is mot'd for 12 months,i would like to thank those who said it would cost hundreds to get it through and the one who said it is valueless,as you are so very clever to be able to tell if a car would pass a mot by only looking at pictures and all are expert car valuers, you should go and meet lord alan sugar as im sure he will snap you for your talents,im sorry if i have offended any one via this thread but i dont like to be ripped apart by people who dont know me and spend there life giving bad advice to people when hiding behind the internet, thank you again for being so helpful,by the way if any one would like to contact me direct or meet to give there opinions face to face then just say, thanks

Lisa - personally I would pull the current Ebay advert you have for the car, as the title lists it as Spairs and Repairs. The vast majority of people looking for that car will discount it before even reading your advert as they'll think it's a crashed or dead car. So they won't even open you advert to see that it's actually a working car with 12 months MOT. Looks like the OP has missed out on a bargain.

Cancel the listing and start another, stating in the Title that it has 12 month MOT - it should make a huge difference to the price you finally achieve as you advert will reach a much wider audience. I'd also remove the diatribe at the start of the advert aimed at the first buyer - it will just make people think you are awkward to deal with, despite that fact that it was you who was messed about. Just state that it's been re-listed as it's now got 12 months MOT and list the items that needed replacing.

Good luck, hopefully every cloud has a silver lining and you sell it for more than the price in the first auction.
  • Point taken re viewing the car first, will hold my hands up on that one. And maybe the communication was a bit pants, will bear all in mind for future reference!
  • Hang on, the seller is claiming to have bought the misses a new Beetle on the auction advert. Yet comes on this forum as "Lisa".

One of those dodgy home traders that make up a story line perhaps?

It'll probably fetch nearer double the price if you update the description and advertise its brand new MoT.
I agree the OP missed out on a bargain, and serves him right IMO.

Bought a Clio with 3 days MoT left. Sailed straight through. It depends on the type of seller, the car itself and why they are selling it.

Why don't you buy the car now it's got the mot, for the price you bid plus mot cost as you requested ?

Lisa, would you sell it for that price now, as you agreed ?

Then everyone gets what they wanted, and agreed.
  • Thanks for the advice jq.,i have relisted as you advised,i do hope it sells without any further trouble, also thanks to leeuk for the conspiracy theory, you may want start writing books for ian flemming.

I do think asking for full payment and the mot cost before taking it for the mot is the way to make people think there is a major fault with the car.
I bought a car without an mot but agreed a price with the seller on the condition that he sent it for the mot first and I would buy it pass or fail as long as long as it was as he said and had no expensive faults. ( it failed on minor points so I paid the agreed price plus half the mot cost )

It WAS valueless! Now it's got 12 months MOT it's worth something.
Why didn't you do that in the first place instead of wasting two listing fees and losing a buyer over somthing as simple (as it turned out) as an hour and £45 to get it a new MOT?

Why bother? You keep coming back to this thread for more!
Only kidding. But selling a car, even on ebay, is an art. I've personally never had a problem with "timewasters" having sold several cars through ebay. A good description of a decent car and a realistic price gets a genuine buyer every time, IME.
I appreciate you were pregnant etc and so forth (good luck by the way!) but it's still worth taking a couple of hours to tart a car up, take decent photos and write a good description. You can make hundreds rather than wasting your own and other peoples time by just slapping it on ebay and hoping for the best.
