Been so busy preparing for interviews lately I've hardly been on here!
I can't remember whether I posted but I've decided not to keep totalling up what we put in the SP, as it will be nice for it to be a surprise!

Well done nanto3girls, it's a rotten day here too.
Hi there, LC, it's good to see you. Your Target is ok as it's the same as last time. All the best with your plans, they're wise ones for sure.BTW, could you please pop your No on your sig please, it's 195.
Oh, very well done, Mudflower, I just loved the way you told Mr Sainsbury what you thought of him. :rotfl:Ok folks I need some help about my potting. Do I count just what I put in the Pot or can I also add money I put in the bank. Im only asking because |I was given money by my Great Aunt and I dont think its very moneysaving if I put it in my pot rather than my ISA. can I include this?
Hi fishcakes, I see what you mean and must admit I'm inclined to agree with you. I always encourage any members to save the worth of vouchers, survey payments, small lottery wins etc; but as you say this is not savings it's a gift (a lovely one too!). A huge part of me hates to say "No" to anyone where savings is concerned, but under the circumstances I believe it's the only fair thing to do.
I think you'll most likely understand when I say I'm also trying to consider all other SPC members who perhaps are low on fortune; many only being able to afford a few pence per week and I would hate them to feel demoralized in any way.
So, many thanks for asking the question, fishcakes, at least now we all know what to do if faced with similar circumstances. Thanks a lot and how wonderfully generous of your Great Aunt! :T
Re your thoughts, Observer: Having the chance to think more deeply about it all, rather than 'off the top of my head' on the first day of opening the pots, I now do not believe it to be fair to include money saved in other challenges. You bring up very valid points and each MSE challenge deserves to be kept separate or it's unfair both to those who organise them and certainly to those who can/wish to only save in one challenge. The same would obviously apply to money saved elsewhere for Christmas as it's not in the Sealed Pot Challenge ie. if one saves all year in a shop by buying stamps to save for Christmas it's nothing to do with SPC.
One thing I would like to say is: Any money that is saved via SPC and then transferred to the banks or into an ISA is fine to include in Totals as it has been saved and is the choice of the saver to do what they wish with their money as I've always pointed out on the 1st post of each thread. Any money saved in any other way to bank or taken from wages to bank is nothing to do with us and can therefore not be included in Totals.
In all honesty though, folks, the SPC is a light-hearted way for us all to save money fairly, and for many members to save for the first time so lets not get too bogged down with whys and wherefores.
Many thanks for raising this, fishcakes, for you thoughts also, Observer.

Managed to do 3 lots of potting today - £2.40 change left over from a night out last night, £1.60 in coins that we lurking in my purse and 60p from my dad who asked me what my pot was all about and rooted out some change in his pocket!
My pot at the moment is a recycled large plastic sweet tub left over from halloween with a hole cut in the plastic lid rather attractively sealed with a whole load of duck tape!! It does the job :cool:0 -
