• 38p for me today :)

We went to sain s burys today and my eyes were peeled for any roadkill but nothing and DH paid for the shopping so no new pennies for the pot. Pay day for me tomorrow so should be a few more pennies winging their way to the tub. Loving this thread, very very addictive! Also enjoying thinking about what I shall do with the money as have started my Christmas shopping already and have changed my tes co club card vouchers to arrive in November. I hope to be able to top up my card by £50 throughout the year as tes co then give you an extra £3 as a reward so it works out as a 6% interest rate (i think I am right! But maths isn't my strongest!) So far its a toss up between over payment on the mortgage or the wedding fund :)

Very clever Sue, it didn't work though :( so I'll just go back to being Kerfuffle, and have a ponder about how to achieve more pennies for the pot.
• £4.66 into my various pots today :D

I like my NSD's but I think I like the days when I spend and therefore get some change for my pots, better!! :rotfl:

Found a few pennies in my daughters' room today. You'd think we give them pocket money the way they walk about with their little purses jingling with money, but it's all pennies that they've 'stolen' from us. So today, I stole it back. :p Not all of it, they still have their little money bags to play shops with, but this was just loose change lying under their mattresses so I'm sure they won't have noticed it's gone.

I think I may have roped OH in to the challenge. He's much better at me at putting pennies away in a pot - however I'm far more disciplined than him at not taking out - so hopefully together we can make this work. I'm still keeping my pot at work - that one and whatever is in it at the end of the year is MINE!

Hello all. I potted £5 yesterday cos I got a free bus ride into town so potted the fare, also didn't buy a cup of tea but went home for one. I feel very smug.

When I first found this thread I did wonder about the lost interest actually like Ianisamazing, but decided I'd be more likely to save if I could physically put some money into a pot and see it growing. I agree with the other posts, Jakesmum said it all for me, and the money I'm putting away is money i would have frittered before. This is the first forum I've joined and I'm loving the friendly, supportive atmosphere :) It's not just about money is it.

Anyway I'll stop blethering now. Good luck to all and take care

I know I come on here and talk a load of silliness (the polite word to use :p), but I love the 'challenge', as he puts it ...The SPC is worthwhile, you can't sum it up any better than the following statements:

Sue,
Hi TanisAmazing, there's not a lot I can add to what sparky, Kerfuffle, little_sweetie, BlueCow and jakes-mum (brilliant post explaining about the power our pots have over us, jakes-mum!!!) have written, but I will throw weight to what sparky said, that being that so many folk here have never once saved money on their lives and it's sensational here each year when they have opened and counted all the money THEY managed to save!!!! They are delighted and the atmosphere here, even though we can't see each other, is electric and, for as long as I'm able, I'll be so happy to share in their savings, their delight, their lives and ups and downs, illnesses and so much more. Yes, very many of them take out money part way through and put it in the bank, then that is kept note of until they tot up their savings at the end of the year. I leave mine in all year through because it gives me such a buzz! I love this thread and all the folk here are my friends, whether I see them or not, several of us have even likened it to family and in so many ways it is as there is such a bond (money) that ties us together! We take delight in the savings of others here. So, I think 1706 members would disagree with the majority of your thinking, Tanis, Martin too whio was delighted when he replied to me!! Unless you're a member Tanis then it maybe hard to comprehend, but - if you wish, you're most welcome to join and test us out.
Have a wonderful day everyone

LC2,
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but why not give us a try join us for a couple of months then at least if you don't like it you've lost nothing but gained a pot of loose cash!!

Sue and Sparky are the best they work really hard and they really do care about us.

This thread is more than about saving money . It gives us all support through bad times when perhaps we are having a hard time and while we are supporting our own families, it's great having someone to support us. It makes us laugh on grey days it also makes us compassionate for other people. We all need people. Come and join us
You never know that £2.07 interest that you earn on your savings might not matter so much come December!!!

Observer,
Too right and so we should! I too love being part of this challenge and I know those pennies wouldn't get saved up any other way. So if it helps me (and the 1700 or so other peeps) gain just a little bit of money that we didn't really realise we owned, then what is the harm? Personally, I love it

Hmmmm money to pot.....oh go on then, 59p in z pot

A lovely shiny pound coin for me today :j...Hope you all had a good day potting :D :T :D :T :D :T :D :T :D.

£3 in the pot for me today.

• Good evening potters!

Slow start for my pot so far, but feeling really positive about it and just want to give a shout out to everyone here for being so supportive and welcoming. :T

Surprised to see the concept of this challenge (no inverted commas required) being questioned but ho hum each to their own eh!? :p

I paid a visit to my best mate today and explained this idea to her, she thought it was a great idea and although she may not join the MSE forums I think she is going to have a go, I will let you all know her total if she does do it, when the time comes :)

I have been smoke free for one week today :D That alone has saved me approx £26 this year!!! Makes me think I should be putting my quit smoking savings in the jar, imagine that across a year

Have a lovely evening all and happy potting xxxxxxx

Well done Chiefsfanuk on being smoke free. Think it would be a great idea to pot what would have gone up in smoke. If your will power is fading you could look at your pot and see how much you have saved. Why not think of something expensive as a treat and see how long it would have taken you to smoke the value away. Never smoked myself so don;t appreciate how hard it is to quit but have a best friend who is a reformed smoker for 5 yrs now. Well done you and keep it up.:D
