Enjoy your 'challenge'.
I think Martin is about more than just DDing some money each month into a savings account tbh.
Im not sure what you mean by effect, alot of the people on here are not good with money, this is why they have debt. No holiday, birthday or christmas has ever been paid anyway other than with a credit card, every car has been bought with a loan. If the money is in the bank its theirs to spend. A sealed pot, though it gives no 'extra' money sitting there, does stop the temptation for soem of us to spend it and I would rather have £500 sat in a sealed pot earning nothing than a nice shiny savings account with nothing in it because i can easily take it out and spend it.
I assume that you are a 'saver' you have no problem putting money aside each month for your holidays/christmas presents/new cars. You are not lured in by the coffee shop when your out shopping or called by the chocolate aisle. You dont waste money each month on things you dont need. You are in the minority here unfortunately, I honestly wish you weren't, I wish everyone had a built in passion to save money, but it will never be. I do think you would be better on the Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge as their idea seems to fit with your own on money saving.
And as a side, our 'Challenge' is to save the money in a tin that we would normally waste on things, its to save for christmas as alot of us have children and they are not cheap christmas lists, its to save for holiday spending money as its no different than buying your currency each month and saving it up, and just to have a bit of fun. Not everything regarding money has to be serious.
I dont think this is something you will ever 'get' you either accept it as something for you or you dontSPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
HI all had a good shop today and the till receipt said I had saved £7.91 so I have added that to my pot along with the 4 shiney pound coins I found in hubby's pocket when washing his work trousers this morning, I have warned him to empty his trousers cos what i find i keep and he never learns, and finally i sold 2 scarves and a hand knit poncho on Ebay today so when i get paid for them I will have another £30 to add. If only every day could be so lucrative.0

Thank you all for being here♥
I know it's going to be a good year with all of you in my corner. I am inspired with everyone making saving fun and not feeling deprived.
ok back to potting. I think I found all the loose change I could get my hands on. I plan to have a ns week so $1.00 into my pot today. I'm not sure yet if I want to keep track of my potting or be surprised.
♥ Have a great day ♥potting#16900 -
Dont you love the way we all jump to the defence of our thread when we feel it threatened
Too right and so we should! I too love being part of this challenge and I know those pennies wouldn't get saved up any other way. So if it helps me (and the 1700 or so other peeps) gain just a little bit of money that we didn't really realise we owned, then what is the harm? Personally, I love it
Hmmmm money to pot.....oh go on then, 59p in z pot :TChallenge savings 2010-2016 £1564.60:j

Hello all,
my first post of the year
I am a bit greedy & have two Sealed pots going; the first is my £2 coin pot which I'm using to save towards a new pair of boots in the autumn. This has been going for a few weeks now & is currently at £56
.
I used my last years SP savings to clear debts & consequently ended up struggling over christmas. Decided to start again as of first week back at work in 2012 & slotted my first £10 in on Friday :j

£1.00 in the pot today for me
for me saving is what every suits you personally I find it easier to save little & often so this challenge suits me - but I do reconise that it isn't for everyone

Good evening potters!
Slow start for my pot so far, but feeling really positive about it and just want to give a shout out to everyone here for being so supportive and welcoming. :T
Surprised to see the concept of this challenge (no inverted commas required) being questioned but ho hum each to their own eh!?
I paid a visit to my best mate today and explained this idea to her, she thought it was a great idea and although she may not join the MSE forums I think she is going to have a go, I will let you all know her total if she does do it, when the time comes
I have been smoke free for one week todayThat alone has saved me approx £26 this year!!! Makes me think I should be putting my quit smoking savings in the jar, imagine that across a year
Have a lovely evening all and happy potting xxxxxxxV xxx
