  • No contributions to my pot today, still need to buy a new one!

    Could I ask the opinions of my fellow potters? The contents of my previous year Sealed Pot can be categorised into the following;

    - Change that has been bagged and banked
    - Notes that can be banked (currently they're sitting in my purse and being spent instead of withdrawing more money from my account)
    - Change of a significant amount but not enough to be bagged and banked

Can I ask what my fellow potters do with the third category (ultimately my spare change)? I have almost £50 worth of change that I can't bank as I would like to. The only thing I can think to do is to swallow my pride and stick it into a Coinstar machine, but I really don't want to pay commission. As far as I'm aware Bank of Scotland / Halifax branches don't have coin deposit machines, certainly not the ones I've been into and I rarely visit self serve tills, normally only when I'm in a rush and don't have time to feed lots of change into one!

    Thanks
    Thank you competition posters!

When you say you can't bank it - do you mean it doesn't completely make up the amount a bag is meant to take? That doesn't matter - you can bank any amount of loose change. You can bank £3.80 of 10p coins, or 4.85 of 5p coins, or £13 of £1 coins etc.

There's no requirement to bank complete bag-fulls of coins. The bank will just weigh the bags and give you the amount that's in them. As long as you don't mix the coins in each bag, you're fine.

Not sure if that's what you mean though, it's late and I'm not feeling the brightest. :D
  • I have chosen my pot and sealed it!
Thanks for my number Sue - I've updated my signature. Just need to subscribe to the thread to remind me to keep dropping coins in!

I've gone for a mid size tub. Sealed it with tape rather than superglue for reusing purposes! I counted what was already in my change pot and added some more - came to £6.71 so quite please with it already!

    Good morning potters,

I've finally got off the starters block and have clunked some coinage into the piggy pots.

    Happy saving everybody.

And we're off!.... 1st £2 coin potted yesterday and a few coppers too.
We've got 4 containers here... a puffin money box for the £2 coins, a cat money box for 20p's, a Jim Beam whisky bottle for £1 coins and a large glass hexagonal terrarium (?) about a foot diameter for everything else. The whisky bottle and hexagonal container are sealed with the plastic sealing stuff you put around the edge of the bath so nobody can get into it!
Aiming for £500 this year - Probably going towards a capital repayment on the mortgage, Christmas or some other unexpected expense. It's nice to have something to aim for so I'll have to give it some thought.
    Happy saving everyone

  • I've bought a Terramundi! :j The inlaws have given me some money (£50) for Xmas and I really didn't know what to buy, so have bought a Terramundi -the drippy purpley-pink and black one that's just lush -and will pot the rest of the cash! There's an Ebay seller doing them for £15 plus £3.80 P+P, which I thought was reasonable.

  • Morning all.

Well i counted all my change yesterday, this was change that i had been throwing into my bedside drawer over the last couple of weeks. so i am going to cheat a little and use it to start me off.

    £29.45 for me. :j

My plan for next year is to set myself a weekly budget and whatever is left will go in the pot, so i dont think i will be adding too much, but it all helps, and i am going to try really hard not to waste money which at present i am very good at doing.....

Have a good sunday all. :)
