The Jacobs type not the ones you pull!
We seem to have half a cupboard full of half used packets going soft/stale does anybody have any tasty uses for them (I'm a vegetarian) - ie can they be crushed and used like breadcrumbs?
Look forward to your replies

I'd crisp them up in a cool oven - they'll live to see another day0

also, i think you sprinkle them with water before putting the in the oven as apprentice tycoon said, this is meant to perk them up as well.i think this also goes for french bread?0

Crush them up and sprinkle over soup.
Add your favourite herbs to crushed crackers and use to coat chicken breasts.0 -
Or make crackermeal. Crush them up into fine crumbs and use to coat fish, chicken and croquettes before frying. Store in a bag in the freezer0

Hi
I use stale crackers as a kind of bredcrumb substitute so they can be used as a coating and also to bulk out things like meatloaf, meatballs and burgers.
Given that you don't eat meat these probably don't appeal much!
A vegetable/bean chilli with crushed crackers and cheese on the top and popped under the grill for a bit is lovely.

My variety box of crackers has been opened (and forgotten about) for ages and the crackers are edible, still in date but less crispy than they should be.
Would warming them in the oven on a tray revive them or so I have to use them as they are ?
Any tips welcomed
Thanks in advance :beer:0 -
I would try crisping them up in the oven and them crumbling them to put on top of a pasta bake.0

Last week I warmed a box of soft Ritz crackers in a low oven (gas 2) for about 10 mins. They were better than before!

What sort of crackers are they? My nan makes "ice slices" from Jacobs crackers. Sounds vile but actually tastes really nice. Sandwich 2 crackers together with thick custard & top with icing. The crackers go a bit soft with the custard anyway so yours should be fine.
