DPA Letter - more than one account at once???

Hi board,

For various reasons, I have 3 current accounts with the Halifax, all of which have accrued multiple charges over recent years.

I've migrated my salary, dds, etc to a (MSE recommended) A&L a/c, and completed the first MSE template letter to request a list of charges.

Should I simply fill in all 3 account numbers at the top of the letter, or should I send one letter for each account?

Obviously I would prefer to only write £10 cheque, and also I would like to keep it as quick and simple as possible, but I don't want to jepodise my chances.

Thanks!

Colin

  • I have 3 accounts, 2 of which are joint accounts, with Barclays. I sent a request for statements/charges on one letter for all 3 accounts and so only sent £10. I got them back quite quickly with no hassle. Just worked out the interest etc so we'll see how I get on claiming back the £2699.15 they owe me.
:D I love my nursing necklaces. Keep babies hands occupied and you free to breastfeed in peace.
  • Great! I'll give it a shot for all 3 then.

Thanks, and good luck with your claiming!
  • My wife and I have various accounts, both joint and individual with HBOS as well as a credit card each with them.

We sent a data request for charges for all the accounts and enclosed a cheque for £20 (£10 per person) and a few weeks later (after telephone calls to chase a response) received the biggest pile of statements you have ever seen, covering all the time since we opened our accounts 10 years ago! The only issue was that they sent them in such unsuitable envelopes that split coming through the post and we are now checking to see if any statements are missing.

Does anyone know, when you submit the claim - does the small claims court limit of £5000 apply per person?

Also, can you claim for more than 6 years and if so what difference does this make? Where does the figure of 6 years originate from?

Many thanks for feedback & good luck

This is the limit for the small claims track. If you have more, you can either make multiple claims or risk using the fast track system.

Some people have claimed for more than 6 years but it becomes more complicated. You may need legal advice to proceed.
  • Hi folks,

I am about to do my initial letter requesting 6 years statements. I have both a debit card and a credit card from Halifax, therefore can I request statements for both accounts on the same letter or do I have to send two seperate requests?

    Cheers

    downandout! (well almost)
  • hi there,

i sent a letter requesting statements fofr 3 separate accounts to one lender - as long as you have the account numbers etc - they should send them - my statements arrived in this mornings post for all of the accounts.

    Good luck!
  • Cheers carrie,

£10 which is better in my pocket than theirs.
  • exactly, a lot of the banks are now sending the £10 fee back and sending the statements for free - so far i have only had one bank charge me...

Natwest requested £5, HSBC and the Abbey sent them for free!
  • Another quick question.

Is the account number for my CC the long 16 digit number or will I have to find a statement to get this info.

I would just look out a statement if I was at home, but I do not have internet access and am actually doing this from my brothers computer. I was hoping to get everything sorted now, rather than leave it until I check things at home.
  • no that's the card number you will need the account and sort code number.
