I used to find quite a few of these around the house but no more because now even my dd has a penny jar, and she has shamed her boyfriend in doing the same, as he used to put pennies in the bin!:eek:
My OH used to throw them away :eek::eek: before he met me, i gave him a tin and then he would give me a bag full when i visited. I guess i should appologise to those MSE'ers who suddenly had their source of change disappear lol0 -
600 of the shiny lovelies placed 'on remand' in my credit union savings account

582p not spent due to lots of 10p bargains at close of play in Mr T's. Also a home made haircut for DH, which saves 700p.
Also saved some through careful price comparison on packs of dates, believe it or not! The cheapest were something like 14.2 per 100g and the most expensive... I can't remember but lots more. The cheapest were some of those soft ones designed to be eaten from the packet if necessary, as they were on 2 packs for £3.Miggy

I did much bargain hunting when finishing the Christmas shopping yesterday. Biggest bargain of all was in SuperDrug with the gift boxes of selected perfume and body lotion £18.99 buy one get one free. I have two teenage girls so this was perfect as I needed to get them one each so 1899 lovely pennies saved.
Don't be looking for a great range or anything classy though, the choice is limited and aimed at teenagers (Kylie, Kate Moss & Victoria Beckham!) but it did the job for me
BHS had a fantastic 50% sale on too.but I didn't need anything in there so I decided there was no point in spending just because it was half price. So probably squillions of pennies saved there too.

I want to join too! Good thread op.
My OH is a change rejector, although he hasn't resorted to throwing them yet! but I do find this very handy for bread and milk etc.. At the local shop, and they love change in the shop. I've managed to help the local pub out a couple of times too with OH's change, I'm just cheeky and say look how much money we've made can I buy you a pint!
One of my mates brothers was really miffed he had been saving 2pences to an exact value, once achieved my friend took it to the greedy coinstar machine for him not realising the 7% charge! needless to say he wasn't too happy!
If your not too proud I find the self checkouts are the best place to get your money's worth spending the loose change, plus at tesco's etc you'll be getting points too so it's a win win.
Thanks for the tip about HSBC coin machines, I will be popping into my local branch later to see if they have one and if so I will opening an account with them.0 -
Pennies escaping at an alarming rate at the moment, my purse is very empty. Once the New Year is here those pennies had better be very afraid as they will be in lock down!!Every Penny's a Prisoner.
