Ohh I'm in too freeby, am actually in the middle of counting my sealed pot challenge bottle so at the moment am reaping the rewards of a whole year of already treating pennies (and other denomination coins) like prisoners - their jail is a 3 litre Vodka bottle which wasn't a very good jail for vodka (it had a fab pump so much too easy to pour from!) but those pesky pennies cannot climb the sides to escape without multiplying themselves till they reach the neck. :D

Oh yes and the evil tax man gave me a cheque for 76800 pennies this morning so it's in the bank now.

    Im in for this one!!

I gained approx 800 pennies at the weekend! Found my sisters old penny jar at the back of a cupboard, counted it all and managed to make 8 bags up :j

DH thinks I should have given it back to her, but seeing how she moved out about 7 years ago, I have claimed it as mine! Is that wrong???

Look at all you lovely penny gaolers :T

    Hello to all of you.

Those poor pennies should be very scared but they're like wily old foxes and they'll try to hide in the most hidiest places, so your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to hunt them down and take them prisoner :)

Have a great penny saving day x x

Hello Freeby! Please may I join in? :D (*Ingratiating smile*).

We finally got into the black last summer but that doesn't stop me taking pennies prisoner! I have a jar full, but that's become counter-productive because I'm less inclined to add more. I should be disciplined and take a few whenever I go shopping to feed the self-service till.

I also womble clubcard points - the other day DS2 left a couple of receipts in carrier bags and as he's too young for a clubcard and doesn't want the money in cash, I added them to mine. I also reuse bags when I remember, to get the 'green' points - can we count those?

Although I wish the offspring were more 'pennywise', I long ago accepted that at least two of them don't count pennies as money () so I stopped offering back any I found abandoned, and declared I was keeping what I found. That paid for a ticket to a very good women's day at our church which was a treat for me. :) (They spoil us rotten ;)).

I'm going Christmas shopping later, this thread will help keep me on track!

  • Great thread. I paid off quite a chunk of my Barclaycard by rounding down my current account to a nice neat even number! 53 pennies here, 81 pennies there. It's surprising how it adds up. I also always pick up pennies if I see them in the street or wherever, it's a reminder to my subconscious that these things are not to be wasted. Saving for a wedding so need about 1000000 pennies. OMG, that looks awful!

hi :hello: I'd like to join in, if I may! Today I bought 6x bottles of sparkling water for £1.46 instead of 2 bottles of diet coke for £1.80 thereby keeping 34 pennies prisoner, and potentially more pennies when I don't need to buy any more diet coke.. (I have a bit of a diet coke habit I'm trying to break!)
