Hey Kerfuffle  Welcome to the penny guards
Now get your uniform on, grab your keys and your baton and prepare to work constant 24 hour shifts keeping watch over the pesky pennies that keep trying to make a break for freedom.
Honestly, you'd think they'd have learned their lesson by now
And yes..........way too much christmas cheer :rotfl:Free by FiftyDebt of the Moment -August NSD Challenge 14/150 -
I wanted a kindle, but in my money saving mode of the last year, decided that I wouldn't buy one until I became debt free, which I did at the end of November.
But then there was a new kindle out and I wasn't sure which one to get, by which time it was nearly Christmas. I used Christmas money and the money I made from playing the free daily game on Game Duell all year to buy the kindle, and my friend used their discount to get money off as well.
I ended up getting the keyboard kindle for £124, but as I paid from Christmas money I saved 12400 pennies. Although technically I saved 14900 pennies (the full price) plus 2500 pennies with the discount
This year was the first year I managed to keep all my clubcard vouchers in one place ready to use them on one shop, and I've just used them to do a monthly shop, taking advantage of the cheaper delivery costs available this week. I saved 5050 pennies on that!
Tomorrow will be spent making a variety of soups and sauces and freezing these for use in the next few weeks, which will save me more pennies on lunches for work.
My aim for January is to have a takeaway free month!0 -
I have thoroughly enjoyed the perspective on here - what a fabulous thread.
I think considering pennies rather than pounds is fantastic, and the idea of being a gaoler really appeals to me too.
Please can I join you all? x0 -
Hi freebyfifty and boultdj, thankyou for the welcome
buffster - I haven't been out of the house today, but I have bagged up the meat from the turkey carcase ( 6 x 7oz bags) for pies, soups and curries and have boiled up the bones to make some stock, so I guess I've jailed a few pennies there, not quite sure of how much to equate them to though :rotfl:
miss empty piggy, I've just said hello to you over on the 'Debt Free By Christmas 2012' thread, so I'll say a big hello to you here too.:T0 -
Hi everyone! Is there room for another penny prison guard? I've been reading this thread for a little while now and would like to join in if I may.
I have yet to take any pennies prisoner but I am trying to minimise the number of escapees. I confess that earlier I did release 400 pennies, but that was in exchange for two lottery tickets. Am rather hoping that those pennies will return to me later tonight, along with several (hundred/thousand/million) friends, but I won't hold my breath!0 -

Well a chicken curry would be around 350p I think, a tin of soup is around 80p and stock cubes are about 160p for 8. I've no idea what a pie would cost, but you've saved quite a few pennies I'd say!
I just made 2 pots of soup, 1 tomato, 1 mushroom and that's about 10 portions. At 80p a tin, that's 800p, but I paid 100p for the mushrooms and 160p for tomatoes as I already had all the other ingredients. So I've saved 540p on that.
I've made 2 tubs of tomato sauce using onion, garlic & tinned tomatoes that I already had in my cupboards. If I'd bought a sauce that would be around 300p for 2 tubs at my local store, so in total I've saved 840p today for only a couple of hours' work.
I still have more sauce to make but I'm running out of empty takeaway tubs to use for freezing my soup and sauces!0 -
I wanna join in too please! It's slowly beginning to dawn on me that the pennies need to be looked after.Every penny's a prisoner!

Lots of room for everyone
Just keep the pennies under lock and key, they grow up to be big fat pounds if you keep them long enough.Free by FiftyDebt of the Moment -August NSD Challenge 14/150 -
Hello,
I'd like to join if you don't mind.
I've decided that everytime me or DH pick a coin up from the street then we should put it in a completely separate pot instead of our wallets or purse. This way it is completely separate and would be really interesting to see how much we have picked up by the middle of December 2012.
I shall endeavour to pop in here every now and again to update you as and when :beer:Aiming to be Debt free by October 20130
