Sorry, I just googled the spec for fun. I don't even want a telly. I guess that doesn't include delivery then. : )

It's not HD, as it's only 852 x 480 screen resolution, even though it has HDMI.

But you can upscale your movies to HD with even half-decent DVD players. I bought a Toshiba one from eBay this week and it only cost £52 inc p+p

UPSCALING IS NOT HD!!!!! Its up to you to decide if an cheapo upscaling DVD player can do a better job than your own panels upscaling processing.

Sorry back on topic. This is 'HD Compatible' which means it has HDCP enabled HDMI socket for future proofing, although is not capable of displaying native HD resolution, it will just downscale it to display on the panel.
Not that this is a bad thing, as some SD or as this is called EDTV panels can display HD content better than cheapo 'HD Ready' panels and certainly SD (sky, freeview etc) as this is closer top the native resolution of the panel. The key thing to remember is resolution is only part of what makes good PQ.

IMO I would estimate that 9 out of 10 of 'HD Ready' panels sold (LCD&plasma) haven't even been used with a HD source anyway.

LG panels are also generally well thought of, but it would be best to have a demo if possible.
  • can someone clarify please... would any 'hd ready' tv give the same picture quality as an sd tv if the hd connectors are not used ie. use scart instead of DVI?

Probably not, particularly using scart connections. A CRT fed a good SD signal will probably be better than an "HD Ready" flatscreen - the usual culprits being LCDs. Stick a different source such as an Xbox 360 through an up-to-date LCD with the appropriate connections and it will usually look better.

However, most people will be watching Sky SD or Freeview or SD DVDs and then you will usually get a similar or even a worse picture via an LCD versus through a CRT.

Nevertheless, having shelled out all that cash, people become convinced it is miles better:p

If you want a 32" widescreen and space is not an imperative, a good CRT will beat most LCDs hands down. If you MUST have an HD screen, then that is a different matter. Howevr, how many people truly need one?

My own imperative was for a larger screen - 42"+ and plasma is the way to go if price is an issue - which it surely will be for most people.

Thus I think that this screen is an absolute bargain for spec/price. 92% of respondents on the AV Forums site, (actual owners versus opinionated know-alls), were pleased with their purchase and I thought that that spoke volumes!

    Looking forward to my delivery:D

This is the screen in case anyone is confused right now
