Why what difference would it make , i seen HD on a friends telly didnt look that much different to my CRT

I went in currys and asked to look at an HD tv so I could see if it was any better. The assistant took me to a display with football playing (I assume it must have been sky HD?). Anyhow I had to keep looking at a normal set then the HD set to try and work out if it really was any better.

Even now I'm not so sure it really was any better
    .
  • Facts:

Don't bother going to Currys/Comet/Other electronic zoo if you're expecting to be able to see the benefits of HD. They have no clue about how to set their displays up, and use poor sources/cabling split and spliced all over the place.

SD is generally just as good on non HD ready sets than HD ready. The quality of the set has more of an impact on this.

Upscaling DVD players are a gimmick. If you have a HD ready set, it will upscale the picture much better than upscaling DVD players (unless you're spending several hundred pounds but then you may as well go HD-DVD/Blu Ray then!). If you don't have a HD ready set there is obviously no benefit in these. If you have seen a proven better display through an upscaling player, this is usually caused by the improved connectivity (HDMI).

Don't worry about it having a 2 pin plug. These things come with standard Separate power cables anyway that you can get for pennies from anywhere.

    Think thats the lot...
  • Yet an upscaling DVD player might be a worthwhile purchase and will provide at least 80% of the benefits of HD.

Don't waste your money on an upscaling DVD player if your TV isn't HD capable, because the TV will just have to "downscale" it back to 480p anyway...

Why? Supported resolutions of the screen are as follows:

    480p, 720p, 1080i, 480i, 576i, 576p

Well, if it's 42" and £560 delivered, it isn't going to be HD.

Large SD plasma screens need a large room, as you need to sit a long way away from them to 'see' a good picture.
