I have just had the yummiest dinner!

My christmas food shop has just been delivered and because this past week the kids have ended up getting fed at MIL or SIL as DH was working, I have been eating SW meals I made for the freezer and as I result I had loads of veg left from last week. So I cooked and mashed the swede, then put 2 chopped courgettes, a yellow pepper, half a red pepper, an onion and a carrot in the oven with a spray of frylight - just had a plateful with lots of black pepper and it was absolutely delicious! also as its all 'free' food in the SW sense it makes me feel much less guilty about the 2 glasses of wine I've had :D

Leek & potato soup on for the kids lunch tomorrow and enough roast veg & swede for my lunch :D

Sounds lovely. OH made the most delish veg curry yesterday, with turnip, parsnip, carrot, potato and onion, and some of the home grown chilli peppers still growing in the garden. At first we thought it a bit bland, then the chilli hit the back of the mouth taste buds - wow!

I did not eat spicy food for years then suddenly started to enjoy it, and this was really tasty.

Making biscuits and cup cakes today, and off to see the band that DS will be joining after the new year tonight, so a pleasant day all in all I think.

    Enjoy the preparations everyone.

Full of cold here, but when the meds kicked in I did manage to clear the front hall, so that it isn't a dumping ground now.

Also made OH put up xmas tree with DS2 so he is a happy boy now. Hard work though as DS2 has some real anger issues at the moment, not sure why either...

Trying to finance paying off the oil tank saga (see my thread). Reckon we need 80k:eek::eek::eek::eek: as this would mean we could settle the claim, pay back hmrc (long story), and have enough left over to finance the payments until we sell the house..

So fingers crossed we get the financing otherwise we are screwed.

If I don't get on tomorrow, hope you all have superb, frugal, Christmas's and that it snows enough to make snowmen, but not enough to worry anyone:rotfl::rotfl:

After a busy day yesteray a relatively calm one today - dh has nipped into work to get his Christmas bonus - which was £50 last year but more like £5 this year but it all counts. Dd is going to help do a food audit and menu plan and ds wants to bake cheese stars. Then dh is going to entertain them while I do school planning for next term whilst being made lots of warming brews. I WILL be organised for next year and I WILL NOT be sat up on the day before we go back doing planning (This will be a huge first as despite loving my job I am essentially a lazy moo :o)

  • Thank the Lord for speed reading - Scaredy, this lady is grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and getting on with it.:T

She has been left in a pants situation (post 177) and her SOA is screaming tight ............... but she knows come April life will so much better.

In your court scaredy, do you want to approach her on her thread or invite her over here? Either way I am certain she will see how I have been in the same situation and with the help of you guys have really turned it around.

Like someone said "Hand up - not Hand-out!!!" so exactly what we hope the Matrix will go on and do.

    Hi There

Long time lurker here, but thought I should post. I think we have all been there, and the people on this site, can help you haul yourself out of the dirt again. I had it all put into perspective. I have to admit this was similar to my situation in 2005. At my bleakest point I had £5 to spend on the weekly shop for two people, and looking at the foodbank typical shopping bag, that looked luxurious. That £5 included getting washing powder, so food consisted of a can of tinned mixed beans (no sauce), and some rather dodgy 10p going off stirfrys and stew bags on the supermarket reduced isle. Yes I did eat the browning cauliflower, and at one point even the essential teabags were cut out as they were too much of a luxury.

I got to like drinking hot water at this point in my life, and had completely forgotten the reason why I like it, until now.

Lets stay supporting each other. Merry Christmas. xx

  • thrifty - I hope she pops no here and sees that there is life beyond the "being stint" stage.

Just received a letter from my solicitors :

"We have received today intimation of a Motion from the Bank's Solicitors to recall the sist in the above action and have the action dismissed with no expenses due to or by either party."

So the bank has officially gone away - the Solicitor will now remit their bill to the Legal Aid people adn I guess they will then ask me for the money.

Better get saving -don't want a huge debt in the New Year

  • Hello Matrix...

Sorry, gone AWOL again, rushing about trying to get ready for the festivities. I want the house clean and most of the baking done before Christmas Eve if at all possible. So far, each day I have woken up feeling pants... so I am not hopeful! Never mind... Christmas is not about what I manage to bake, or the kind of weather we get. It is a state of mind and a way of being. "Keeping Christmas all the year" as Ebeneezer Scrooge post-LBM might say! :)

So, after I have finished here, i will be heading upstairs to have a shower and get dressed. Yes, still in my pyjamas! Oh well, I am on holiday! Then I am going into the kitchen to make lunch... (Leek and potato Soup) and then hopefully get baking. I think we have vegetable pizza on the menu (it's Friday, and so no meat for us Catholics! ;) ) for dinner tonight. Must get into the "I love the kitchen" mode. I have not been in that place for a very, very long time. Any ideas how to love it more?!

If I do not get back in time, I hope the Matrix all have the best possible Christmases. :D
