Happy belated birthday Lara, and happy birthday Marru.
Happy birthday to anyone lurking who's birthday it is today too.0 -
Well done Groatie, hope your move goes brilliantly smoothly
Happy Birthday Marru and belated to Lara - I am going to have a tea party for my birthday on Friday, great minds think alike.....actually mine is more of a tea party for DD's friends, but its our tradition and we love it
Phew! another week is upon me and I'm still not much nearer getting the house rewired. The second electrician I called in hasn't given me his quote yet, but I think he doesn't want the job as he told me it'll take him 4 weeks (!!) to do the job, whereas the first chap said 6 days......so I think I need to find 2 more people so I have a comparison of quotes.0 -
Happy Birthday to Marru and Lara - hope you both had fabulous days.
I went to my parents yesterday, Mum and I were going to go out but the weather was against us plus Dad was feeling particularly unwell. We had a whole mix of weather yesterday - sunshine followed by rain, more sunshine which was then followed by torrential rain and hail, more sunshine and this was followed by torrential rain with hail and thunder thrown in for good measure:eek: I was quite worried yesterday as I thought that Dad might pass away - he looked that grey and ill yet when Mum suggested she take him to the hospital he bit her head off and refused to go. It is all very stressful for her and for me. We had a lovely dinner - you can taste the love that goes into it. I stayed and had my tea too, we sorted stuff out for the auction so I need to take it to be valued tomorrow - her stuff will be put in her name and my stuff in mine.
We drew up a list of what is needed for the house - things like curtain hooks. Things that are needed straightaway and things that are needed in the future. How I could curse the vendors because a few weeks' ago Aldi had the most wonderful lawnmower for £39 which I would have bought but didnt dare. I came home from Mum's with more freezer contents (she buys stuff that she likes or thinks that Dad will like but he is becoming fussier by the day so that food gets given to me), 4 homemade fairy cakes, 2 slices of cold meat (she buys this wonderfully moist cooked meat from a local farm shop), she also gave me £30 for petrol reminding me that there could be a strike soon. I am grateful for their support - don't get me wrong but I don't feel as though I should be taking money off them (I know I go on about this like a broken record..it is pride I guess).0 -

I get where you are coming from Hopeful - I have a grand total of £15 per week "discretionary" spends that I am plowing into the rental rooms at the moment.
Of course when the rooms rent out - I will then have £15 plus £60 plus £80 to roll into the next project. The first roll around is the hard one isn't it?
Happy Monday everyone - what do you GET to do this week?
MG
Oh you're right about the 1st roll! The thing is you have to make a start somewhere! If I don't, my circumstances aren't going to improve, but I know will be getting worse as it is likely I will have a 2.5k deficit on the house sale. Who knows what else make get thrown at me?!!
So, in answer to your question, this week I GET to make my 1st rollgroatie_queen wrote: »What do I get to do this week? - Move house! LOL. It's been a long time coming, but has worked out so well - thank you Universe!
I'll probably not get back to post here till after I'm in and have started reversing the process, ie unpacking instead of packing! I suspect there may be yet more de-cluttering when I'm faced with the reality of the downsize - but that's for another week!
This is the latest stage in a long process which started seven years ago with starting to pay off my mortgage faster, took in lodgers, continued with pouring money into necessary improvements (rotten windows replaced) and here I am, next stage of securing my future. Persistence pays off! I've done this off a part-time charity work pay packet and sheer obstinacy! LOL!
Hats off to you Groatie. It is because of the ladies like you on this thread, that I am finding the confidence to do things a little differently instead of despairing at my lot.
Huge congrats on earning your move - hope it all goes smoothly!Happy belated birthday Lara, and happy birthday Marru.
Happy birthday to anyone lurking who's birthday it is today too.
And the same from me too!! Hope you're feeling ok, Aesop? :A
Horace - sorry your Dad is so poorly. I understand completely how you feel about accepting help from your Mom. My Mom often helps me out with things for my children. It helps enormously and I am truly grateful. It always makes me sad though, that often they are things they really NEED. They're not things Nanny's buying 'just because'. However, I am confident it won't be like this for long. Mom would never want any money back, so I look forward to the day when I can afford to take her out and treat her to lunch or a day out - I see it as another motivator.
Have a great day everyoneOne step at a time0 -
Well done Groatie, great inspiration to all :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

should have asked her if she could read? If so, the article said how I paid off my debt! NOT I am in debt!
grrrrrr :mad:0 -
What a stinker MG - pity the poor moo cannot read. I am sick of PPI calls - they are even coming from America now:mad:
I have eaten all my pineapple rock now - such a yummy childhood delight.
I have an appointment on Thursday with Remploy as I am hoping they will help me find work as I think that my disability is holding me back because I am sure employers see that and then not bother:mad: I am supposed to be referred by the jobcentre but have bypassed them entirely because I refuse to see the DEA. I shall nip to the court too as I have some questions I want to ask because I have looked at the papers I submitted and have noticed that although I ticked for a lump sum I failed to tick the first box asking for a financial order - I just didnt see the box:( I spoke to my lawyer friend who pointed me in the direction of some legal aid as I may be eligible..in other words don't bother me with your stupid questions! sigh. I think she is miffed that I refused to pay her daft fees.:rotfl:0 -

I have started reading your Make Do and Mend thread, and was thinking, it reads like a book. Could you just take it the bits you wrote and put that on your blog?0
