The Universe has finally delivered a house (well not quite yet as the contracts have yet to be drawn up). It seems that both the agent and the vendor were playing games:mad: How strange that when mum upped her offer by £500 to cover the cost of carpets then vendors can be contacted who respond and confirm everything. I shall drive by the house tomorrow and hope to see that the Sold board has been replaced and this was removed by the agents. I hope to be in said house by the end of May/beginning of June.

Now I need the Universe to deliver a job because I shall have to resort to using my savings to pay for a car service & MOT which is due at the end of May, car tax in June and insurance in July - I don't have many savings at all:(

Does anyone have experience of the court with regard to divorce - I know that I don't need to go but I feel that I should attend. Do they decide at this hearing about the money side of things? I want some money after all I put into the household over the past 25 or so years.

I had a non-contested divorce - ex filed for it. DK what would have happened about money as we agreed it upfront (then he reneged on it ). I didn't go and tbh forgot about it till later that day - I wish I had gone as it seemed wrong to end a marriage with such a non-event :(. Hope it goes well for you.

My divorce is non-contested but we cannot agree on money although we have agreed on the furniture which belongs to my mum anyway. I had asked for £15K but he refused although he acknowledged that I should have some money after the length of time we have been married and the amount that I put into the house through buying stuff for it, doing the garden, buying all the food and clothing and generally supporting him for 3 years whilst he fannied about restoring his late mum's house (he never claimed the dole after he was made redundant). He wanted me to get a job before he gave me any money and then suggested that £10K would be better because he needs to get new windows for the house - I waited 25 flippin years for new windows for the hovel:mad:

I think I will go to the court out of interest because I need to know how things work (it is the same when I go to the hospital always asking questions).

Good news about the house Horace. I always thought that stuff like money/custody etc was sorted out separately and the court just rubber stamped all the divorce papers coming in that day in a list. I think this is what happened to us years ago but I did not attend ( I had to swear in front of a court official that the information in my papers was correct when I handed in the papers - felt a bit daft standing in front of a hatch in a corridor).
We had decided between us who would have what as there were no children involved. This meant that our solicitors cost us each the minimum as the negotiiation was done without their involvement. Clearly that would not work if it can't be agreed. Did you consult a solicitor who would have advised, I can't remember what you said?.

Mmmmm - struggling with my menu planning - I am hoping I can start the "spring rotation" of meals, but I think the "winter" one may have to stay another week or so. Spring weather must be coming soon - please.

Still budget is nicely under this month - thank you store cupboard, so I shall be able to tax the car and pop it into its MOT next month - but I still reserve the right to scrap the thing if it is going to cost too much.

I think up here, Horace, you get a divorce and get a decree nisi - but only after the financial settlement is done can you get an "absolute" - he is the one who has the assets, so he would be better off agreeing now otherwise you can come back in the future and have a claim later against houses, cash, pensions etc. Has his solicitor not told him that?

  • Good Morning Matrix!

Feeling a little better this morning, although still really tired. Trying to pace myself and not tire myself out all at once. This is really hard for me to do because I always feel like I need to be doing something productive. And in my house productive normally means tiring! :(

Menu and shopping list done for the week. Now I need the motivation to get up and go to the supermarket to get the stuff in. And then unpack it, put it away and start on some household chores. This evening Hubby and I are going to Mass together (because he is working tomorrow, so I will go alone - and I am singing anyway!) and then we are meeting up with some friends of ours so I can give them their cot blanket which I recently finished! :D We can't be home too late though - partly the pupster, but partly because hubby will have to be up and at 'em by 6am! And probably working until 4 or 5pm. Totally inhuman for him. :(

So, the other news is that I got my last payment from my former employers yesterday. It felt kind of odd to get it. Very final, if you know what I mean?

Luckily, I have been really frugal with my money this month and reckon that what I have saved, along with the final payment, could probably see me through to the end of the year if I was careful. However, the other really good news is that I have been offered the contract with the audit commission for it to start on the 2nd July. That is just totally perfect for me! And not a little bit exciting! With any luck, I will have a nice little financial cushion when I do make an entrance to the world of work again! :D

I have decided to make an investment in some garden products which will help us to grow our own vegetables in our garden. I need to get a wiggle on mind you... in order to get some veggies in to actually grow!! :D Need to do some measuring up and some prep works. Might try and do that in between the showers this weekend and next week.

Right... off to so the shopping. And buy myself a new mop and bucket. Oh yeah... really living life on the edge chez Rickett!! :D:D
