Was at the Post Office at 9.06am Horace ...............THEY were later opening the doors :rotfl::rotfl: So the letter is winging its way to Yoldana.

In full flight cleaning, ironing and baking - and using a baby blue trug from Groatie to gather all my foodstuffs together.

TUES Dinner Griddled chicken with tabouleh (Chicken will defrost in a chiller bag on the way over) Pudding is a tray bake with cherries in the bottom over a pastry case with almond sponge over the top.

WED Lunch Filled Rolls (packed lunch stylee - crisps and fruit)
Dinner: Tuna and lentil salad with Broa Bread and salad (love my store cupboard). Sweet thing is Malt Loaf

THURS Lunch Pasta salad with feta cheese
Dinner Risotto Bianco with salad and ciabatta bread. Pudding is HM oatcakes with cheese for grown ups - bread and jam for kids

FRID Lunch Wraps, crisps and fruit (off to Lochranza castle)
Dinner Ciabatta crostini, pasta in roasted veg sauce. Pud is Honey and Walnut cake.

Most of the stuff is dried and from my stores - all cakes are made, wrapped in foil and frozen to take with us - Broa Bread and ciabatta are happy travelling companions, oatcakes last forever an wraps are from A Food.

Breakfasts are porridge, toast and eggs, toast and jam and pancakes.

    Jobs a good 'un

Well done MG. Want to do my meal planning for me?

Have unpacked and started the laundry with the cleaning cloths. Clearly in my absence someone had wiped up some brush cleaner with one of them and put it with the rest of the grubby cleaning stuff. So the cloth has been binned and the others are back in the WM on another 90 degree wash with soda crystals instead of detergent. I didn't notice the smell as there were also masking tape and rags in the bin out there (spotted this morning, as it's the recycling bin) and last night I took the brush cleaner and the drying brushes outside ... Hopefully that is the last item and the smell will go.

Not very nice outside, so will focus on indoor stuff today - moving furniture slowly back into my bedroom, after removing dust and polishing anything that feels in need of feeding.

The floor looks fabulous - the pale wash has just toned down the wood and made it blend with the walls but you can still see the grain. It's a very soft and restful effect. The knotting solution has mostly worked, but some of the knots obviously weren't as absorbent as others, and as well as sealing the knot from bleeding, it has stopped the paint wash from being absorbed. However, it isn't very noticeable.

I've made my list for the day, so need to stop procrastinating and get on with it!

Its Portuguese slowly leavened bread with a crispy crust - quite dense, but really tasty as it has some cornmeal in it. It is not like a USA cornbread that is more cakey - more importantly it keeps pretty well so ideal for self catering.

    Recipe and piccie on tomorrow

Sun just peeking out from clouds and dh has decided we all NEED a big fry-up type brunch to keep us going :)

Going to do our menu plan later today and then 2 hour birthday party for ds to go to - undecided whether I take marking/planning to do, take stitching to do, or to hit the nearby shopping complex:p

I'd vote for the marking - get it out of the way so that you don't end up doing it the weekend before school goes back.

Let is could be Holidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay time!!!!

Ping is working intermittently but he has just defrosted a bread roll for my lunch.

Still part way through the NHS application form - wishing I didnt sound like a buffoon so I have put it to oneside again whilst I think if something fab to say.

Started to make lists of stuff that I have, what I can get rid of etc. Really need to sort myself out - being surrounded by carp is not doing me any good at all.:(

Maybe I will take some time out this afternoon to read, watch the Home channel (it has some interesting programmes on there) and get ideas. I am all for making do and mending now and if I can make stuff for the new house then I will have a go even if comes out slightly wonky:D Still no news on the house though..I am getting fed up with all the waiting.

MG - your weekly menu sounds fab - I hope you and the boys have a wonderful time. Pack your winter woollies as you are likely to need them - the weekly forecast has said rain and hill snow in the north:eek:

Am going to take one pile of books and then stitching as a reward for afterwards - the party if 2 hours long so should have plenty of time for both and will keep me out of the shops too :)

I have washed my dusty wooden coat hangers and they are hanging on the line with the fabric ones. The ancient lavender bags have all been removed and I will refill them from a bag of rose petals and lavender that I was given and has been lurking in the airing cupboard.

I have washed down the frame of one mirror, and polished both it and the mirror tiles stuck inside the wardrobe door. I have hoovered the bedroom just in case, but I think it was pretty dust-free. I had to empty the dyson first... It has obviously been working hard and will need a thorough clean :)

I then washed and polished my dressing table, which is actually an ancient and slightly ricketty console table (my bedroom isn't very big). There are a few new scratches on it from all the moving around, but polishing it reminded me that it has far more dents and scratches that have been polished over time and that the marks on it are part of it's character. I need to worry less about everything being perfect!

WM has just finished, so let's hope the smell of White spirit is gone. The soda crystals seem to have done the trick on the sink and drained. I need to start getting the rest of the washing processed!

Dora - I vote for marking too, get it out of the way.
  • Lovely couple came complete with trailer, and dismantled and took away the wardrobe and bed for her sister. It was a real pleasure to meet them. The bedroom looks huge, and I can completely empty it now there is more space to work in.

I now feel more confident of getting everything done in time for the move (still programming for missives to be concluded). With most of my close family being in the Antipodes, too far away to help, it's taking time to get everything done single-handed. However I feel more on course now, and fairly confident I've allowed enough time. And chunking tasks into 15 minute intervals with regular cups of tea in between, certainly helps.

A friend was going to come through from Edinburgh tomorrow to help, but we've been foiled by Railtrack doing maintenance on the line - doubling the journey time to 2 hours and everyone diverted onto buses halfway through, so not worth it.

I hope everyone is enjoying the fair weather out there. I feel another charity shop run coming on (agree with you Lara - where has all this stuff come from?? The accumulated result of family life over many years is the answer). Tomorrow I think I need to rest!!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.
