    Happy anniversary Lara!

It was very beautiful, and it is rather sad to see it being mutilated.

Any tree surgeon worth their salt will never mutilate a tree - and if it is left mutilated then they aint no tree surgeon - so the OH tells me, a forester:) It will recover and grow like stink - I speak from experience:eek:

  • That made me laugh Igamogam - because soon it won't be my problem, however I now suspect it is being taken down entirely as the height is being reduced again.

I had a laburnum reduced a few years ago, and it was a work of art - you would never know it had been done, he took such good care to make it look natural. That grew like fury too - it's even bigger now! :rotfl::rotfl: I guess you can't argue with Nature, she has a habit of winning!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Thats what my OH says when he sees to the trees in our garden - the art is making it look as if it hasnt been touched - and with huge things they have such a massive root system that they then have a huge capacity to throw a lot of energy in growing :) So if you thin/reduce the crown you also need to root prune - we have removed some humongous roots as thick as your arm and many metres long over the years to keep our stand of birch trees in check :rotfl:

I now have half a run of fence panels up and we are on a roll.

I am repairing the bases, Dad is putting up the posts and together we are screwing the panels in.

What a difference to the garden - and how much safer for the little one. Woohooo!!!

  • Good afternoon Matrix! I am back from Ireland and Wales, and we have had a fab holiday. I am a little concerned that we seem to have sunk right back into "normality" as soon as we got home. Hubby turned the TV on as soon as he got into the house, and it has not been off for very long at all. I am really tired of it. It is not like we have been out of contact for ages... we haven't. Every one of our hotel rooms had a TV...! Men?! I will NEVER understand them. Ever.

So, holiday washing has been done, made some lovely Irish Flag Soup for lunch (main ingredients potatoes, carrots and watercress - the colours of the Irish Flag) and both hubby and I are wearing our Green Trinity College Dublin T-shirts for St Patrick's Day! :D We will still be shouting for England in the rugby though!!

Going to go and write a list of the things I would like to achieve in the house in the next few weeks/months. I have a lot of work to get done in the garden and the idea of doing it is making me feel a little scared! So, I need to write down all I need to do and break it into 15 minute segments. Hopefully make it more manageable.

Right... off to make some sourdough cake and set a new starter going.

Love and positive vibes to you all on the Matrix.

Washing straight back in cos the heavens opened, dh and kids have made mars bar cakes and some shocking blue and red 'things' which also proport to be cakes but are very odd and scary:eek:

Been chatting over stitching and now have big plans for future garden projects - raised beds in back, spud bags, strawberry pots, use patio as an actual patio instead of just kids dumping ground, possibly get a shed in the future for putting 'stuff' in. Just got to persuade dh that this is all a good idea - and got some willing helpers from church to give advice and a hand:)

Been thinking about 'stuff' a lot recently and have new goals for the year but in no particular order
    1) Sort out gardens and grow stuff
    2) Sort out all school stuff and cut down on what is at home - work smart not more
    3) Pay off majority if not all of credit card debt by the end of the year by being mse/savvy shopping/food planning etc.
    Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
    Emergency fund £1000/£1000
    Savings for big things £9017

    Good work MG

Hey Crickett - glad to hear you had a fab time.

Love to all - loving the tree and garden chat. Hope to learn a few things for 'someday' when my garden will maybe get sorted!

Ouch to the rugby result, think my Da will be drowning his sorrows tonight :rotfl:

  • I've worked myself to a standstill - but happy with progress: have packed away all clothes I won't need before the move. So the wardrobe and chest of drawers upstairs are empty. Next step is to dispose of the furniture up there that I'm not taking. But tomorrow is a day off!

A lovely surprise in the post - a card, an Icebreaker t shirt and a small pack of dark chocs, mmmmm, from my DD1. Mother's Day isn't marked in NZ till May, so she had adapted a birthday card. The chocs are long gone!
