Hello peeps from a crisp and sunny Birmingham - I am not venturing out today it is far too cold and the carpark is like an ice rink.

Funny how things spring into your mind - maybe it is because I am thinking about the house but I remembered that when I was a kid my grandma managed to scrounge old wallpaper books from the hardware shop so that I had oodles of paper to draw and paint on (well the backs of the wallpaper samples is plain). Thought this might be a useful tip for folks with kids as the wallpaper shops tend to chuck the old books out.

I shall be rooted in two rooms today - both of which are warmish.

Stove is on but heating off as the spare room floorboards are being replaced today, so I'm freezing despite two fleeces, scarf, hat and sheepskin boots. There is still ice on the inside of the windows!

Have managed to do a bit of sorting out and putting away, but had hoped to get some work done. Sadly my brin has decided that it is too cold, and I also appear to have developed a cold overnight so am feeling sorry for myself!

Outside looks fabulous, but is very, very cold!

Just seen a job advertised which I should tick all the boxes for. Its for a different LEA that I currently work for who have a reputation for having things pretty much 'stitched up' before the ad goes out and this looks like no exception - advertised just as school hols start and closing date just as schools go back and the need to 'start as soon as possible' is always a give away. Its happened to me before with this lot when they claimed they hadn't received my application which was hand delivered and backed up with a phone call to the person, who was telling me it hadnt been received, that it had got to right dept! My complaint was never responded to!!
I will apply though......nothing ventured and all that!

Brrrr cold here too but not the freezing rain stuff we've had all week thank goodness.

House full of grumpy people today - dh has worked a 68 hour week, kids and I were out late at rugby last night and I can't shake my hacking cough. We probably need to spend most of the day apart! House also suffering from lurgy in most rooms so going to make bacon butties then get going on 15 mins routine.

Marru, I see you lurking, how are you feeling hun xx

Got Cafcass report this week :( Sent a reply to realise that I hadn't included two of the most important things to my reply :( So need to call on Monday :( All this is bringing up very bad memories :( Work utterly ridiculous still, not let off :( I am not coping very well. :( Only hope I have at the moment is that my old employer will get back to me with a job offer...

But on the positive. I really need to get rid of stuff. Starting with the books and the habedashery this weekend. It is sunny so I will get BF to take some good pictures :D

Marru - Sorry to see the Cafcass report wasn't good. Big hugs xx

OK for those of you who are interested her is the new arrival. She had only been in the house less than an hour so she does look nervous.

Can I be a cheeky begger and ask you to put on how to make the vanilla extract please.

I was going to load this back on to the blog - but I appear to be missing a couple of hundred saved posts . Maybe MrF can do something when he picks up my email - if not I have a hell of a lot of re-typing to do.

    But long story short:

Take a small jar (pesto sized maybe) fill up with cheap vodka. Split 2 vanilla pods in half to expose the seeds and chop up small enough to fit in the jar.

Tuck in a dark cupboard for 6 weeks or so and the vodka will turn dark brown and smell fabulous.

As you use the extract up, you can top up with vodka and you have an almost perpetual supply of vanilla extract.

I can vouch that 1 tsp with a vodka shot topped up with ice ad diet coke is lovely - but even half a teaspoon in a basic sponge is wonderfully aromatic.

Oh Bitsy Beans she is a complete Beaut!!! I'm not confident with dogs, but have always had a soft spot with labradors.

Big hugs Marru, I hope you can add the info you need and that it helps produce a positive outcome for you.

Well, my little chaps have gone to their Dad's. I find it really hard :o I do have the week at home with them though, so I shouldn't feel hard done by. I've been productive - lots of ebay items listed but running out of time to make MG's biscuits as well as other jobs I need to do, before popping to Mom's and then to a baby shower. There's never enough time is there ;)

Thanks Bitsy - lovely to see pictures but (like babies) I remember the mess and the hassle. Kittens of course look after themselves and never ever make a mess
