You have to pick your battles victory and you have to stop going over the top with your threats (no Christmas present because the phone is broken when you can't even prove he did it??) as you will be losing face and your children's respect.

You said your phone was very hold so it could just have stopped working. You can't prove your son did it. He may have dropped it, he may not, but the way you have reacted about an old phone being out of order, all the threats, I'm not surprised he is sticking to his story whether it is true or not.

The last phone I bought cost me £5, so you don't have to spend a lot of money on a new phone. And getting it repaired might not be the cheapest option.

He may have indeed forgotten to tell you about it. My dd forgets to tell me lots of things, like that she was babysitting the other night. It happens. I forget things or to tell things too!

Ignore the comments about the old phone of his that went in the wash. He will blame you for it for a very long time. My dd has a habit of trying to blame me for things even when to me it is clear it was her fault. I don't know what it is! Like sometimes whatever I do, it's not good enough, it's not perfect enough for her (and 99% of the time she is a great girl!) . I have to keep biting my tongue not to tell her that I am doing my best unlike her father who b****red off with some other woman and her kids and doesn't give a damn. Point is, you have to let it wash over you! Don't take the bait. Don't get drawn into the argument.

One thing I would do though: the next time he wants to borrow something I would say no. Can't prove he did it, but can't prove he didn't so I would say "no, last time you borrowed my phone it came back broken, caused an argument, I'm not walking this path again, so no you can't borrow it!" Lesson learned!

Max- if you`re going to do this, it`a offence not offense!
You can actually use either, offense being the more American spelling I think. So we are both right! :p

enter 4 digit password screen, press the numbers nothing, put finger on screen nothing, sim in and out over and over battery in and out ovr and over, sometimes ink splodges others nothing, just OH said if he had of dropped it seen as he never said it was not working and just left it on the side he would not have admitted it, no error messages. Sometimes there is nothing on the screen at all others the password numbers box.

ink splodges on the screen is a sure fire way of knowing that it has been dropped. what happens is that the LC breaks. it ends up looking like ink splodges.

Reading this feels like a fight between 2 teenagers! Sorry victory, you both seem to have acted like children :p

Unfortunately, old mobiles do have a habit of just stopping working. It's unfortunate, but I'd say there was a 50/50 chance it was just bad luck of when it stopped working, if it was bad luck I can understand why your son didn't feel like he should pay.

Buuuut I get the distinct feeling your son needs to grow up anyway! Seriously, moaned you didn't get him a mobile for his birthday?!

It is better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt. :p
