If it was THAT clear in the T&C then there would be no confusion over this price hike

I think that the way they word that a customer can move onto one of the new talk plans to save money isn't right.

    Eg- A customer on 18mth Dolphin 20 (£20.42, 200mins, unlimited texts) - Closest package Canary 26 18mth (£26, 300mins, unlimited texts)
Or Racoon 20 (£20.42 either 300mins, 100 texts, unlimited landlines or 200mins, 300 texts, unlimited landlines) - Closest package Racoon 26 (£26 per month, 200 mins, unlimited landlines)

What about the current Dolphin 20? Price is 20.50 (not increasing in Jan). or Panther 20 or Canary 20?
Or the current Dolphin 25? Price is £26 (not increasing in Jan)

Or the current Racoon 20? Price is £20.50 (not increasing in Jan)
or the current Dolphin or Panther 20? Price £20.50 (not increasing in Jan)

There are plenty more options than your making out here.
  • Well I never go onto forum and this is really my first time. I got so infuriated when my wife showed her mobile tonight that I rung them to know what was going on. Whilst waiting 25 minutes on the phone I found this forum and thread and felt compeled to write about it... I find this hard to swallow, the value is what it is... But the principle stand... It is more than 4% what had a pay raise of more that 4% this year? Hence my annoyment.

Seems odd that perhaps you are a house owner/occupier and yet not as furiated by the gas price increases, were they not 18% or so?

Can you show us where the 6.5% arises from?

I've already posted this info but no worries. I was on a Dolphin 30 tariff at £30.64 with a £10 loyalty bonus deducted each month so my net bill was £20.64. With a 4.34% increase to the tariff my bill was to rise to £31.97 however the loyalty bonus remains the same so the net bill would be £21.97 an increase of £1.33 or 6.4%.
  • Vodaphone's terms say

"You may end this agreement by writing to us if:
    • we don’t do something fundamental that we should have done under this agreement (for example, if there is a complete failure of the network for seven days in a row due to something we have done), within seven days of you asking us in writing;
    • we tell you that there will be an increase in the line-rental charge (unless we increase line rental because of a rise in VAT) by more than the increase in the retail price index (worked out as a percentage) since the last line-rental increase and you write to us before the increase applies;"

I see no mention of a defunct Government Agency (the CSO)

DUTR - stop trolling, you made your points, leave people who have issues with this to discuss it in peace. We all know your standpoint clearly, all you are doing is clogging up a thread with lots of valuable info that will be harder to find because of so many pointless posts.

Even if we don't get anywhere, it's certainly worth persuing and causing Orange as much hassle as possible, as I personally feel we need to discourage other companies from following suit. I was very dissapointed with how it was hidden in the T+C's, it certainly wasn't as prominentas I have seen other contracts in the past.

I am around 4 months into a 24 month contract, so effectively could get hit by this twice (if they decide to repeat the exercise next year). It also feels very opportunistic on Orange's part because of the RPI currently being so high, if RPI drops towards the start of next year will we then also be entitled to a decrease in the price? I very much doubt it.

I would have preferred a letter with a full explanation and some form of complaints procedure to follow rather than a quick (and cowardly IMO) text message.

This all feels very underhand and sneaky to me, but the T+C's cover their backs. I just hope they will re-think this otherwise it will be the last time I am ever an Orange customer.
A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.
It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.
A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.

You might be right, but then I have not signed a fixed price contract on my utility, so I know and expect that those will change... However if mobile phone company start to play that game, then everybody will and the utility bill will be worst... It is all about feeling entitled... Something that the rail, utility company have been for a long time... No issue in pricing up new contract...

I'm not signed to a fixed term price plan either, when the energy prices were announced there was a similar amount of 'hot air' but everybody has cooled down again, it won't be too different with the Orange saga, it will all be forgotten about in a few weeks.

    Maybe...

Oh well, we will be in the same situation as Belgium where by law employe have their wage increased by inflation each year.. In which case I will not mind! ;)
