Just got off the phone with an Orange rep (team leader call-back). She offered to change my tariff from Dolphin 30:

£30.64/mnth (soon to rise to £32) for 600m, unltd txt, 500MB data

    ...to Canary 15:

£15.55/mnth for 200m, unltd txt. This price is not due to rise (watch this space though right?).

I can get the 500MB data by getting a data bolt-on at £5 per month. This brings me in at £20.55 but, significantly, I get to keep my loyalty bonus of £10 per month taking me down to £10.55 per month! Given I just renewed in September with a free Desire S that's only £282.84 over 24 months (inc. first 3 months at the higher tariff), which wouldn't even cover the handset cost at retail! :j

I'm happy as I never use the 600m and, at renewal, had been told that I couldn't take the £10 discount to another tariff (porkies?). The rep mentioned she can do this under something called 'best plan' where they suggest a tariff that suits your usage. Suits me anyway, perhaps some of you guys could try this route?

Lastly, although I've had a happy outcome, I wish everyone else the best of luck with their situations. As far as I can see Orange are breaking the Comms Act and although you signed up to Orange Ts & Cs, as my mum always used to tell me, 'you can't sign away your rights'. Keep fighting for your rights and for better deals. :money:

Why not just keep your big nose out if it doesn't affect you ? Simples.

I'm not sticking my nose in anything, people have to read all this drivel of a thread, all the whingers saying "yeah we are going to do this and do that" in weeks to come the prices will still stand and those in favour will show themselves as gutless keyboard warriors ;).
The descision has been made and it's not going to change, why is it some cannot face facts?

Just caught up on the last few posts over the last day.

Firstly, I'm going to wait for my bill on around the 20th, so I can send that to E2save to claim my cashback, just incase Orange on the offchance allow me to cancel straight away.

I will firstly point out the price increase is unfair, and my first port of call would be to have the increase cancelled, either by raising a credit on my account for the remainder of my contract, or by working their systems, so my price plan doesn't show in increase. This would also mean that Orange would have my custom for the remainder of my contract at around £25 per month, rather than not having my customer at all, simply because they won't back down at wanting about £1 a month for the remainder of my contract.

If the first person I speak to doesn't get me anywhere, I'll actually ask what the complaints procedure is, and say that I'm not happy with this outcome, and ask for written responses etc, and also say that as a last resort, I intend involving the ombudsman and OFCOM.

Even if the situation isn't resolved in our favour, and Orange do get away with it, like a previous poster said, people will remember. Also, I believe it doesn't cost anything (apart from a few phone calls or stamps etc) to the consumer to take a case to the ombudsman (if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me), but it would cost Orange in staff time for each case, and hopefully they might realise they haven't actually gained anything by putting up their prices, and this would send a message to all other companies considering similar actions.

But you need to admire the principles of syco1. There goes a MSE member who is willing to sacrifice a great deal of money for his principles.

He writes in this thread "I advise everyone to get out whenever they can before the ship sinks. They can have my extra £1+ for the next five months, they will never get another penny from me."

Consider the sacrifice he is making for his principles when, in another thread he writes "The only reason I keep a home phone is because I get free broadband from Orange".

So he is going to give up his free broadband as well in 5 months. Now there is a stand for principle ....................... unless, of course, he is one of the "gutless keyboard warriors" that you mention. Surely not. ;)

    Yes your right.....

I doubt very much they will go back! I'm an Orange customer who isn't happy about the rental increase, I have called Orange about it and waiting for the managers call back (it never happened) so I'm just waiting the queue for an answer, I have been waiting 25mins so far...

Not that I'm bothered as I have called via the 0800 on my landline and have the cordless phone on loudspeaker. My contract ends at the end of this month and I will shop around for a good deal. Will I stay with Orange?? I might or I might go elsewhere.

Why am I calling them? I don't 'want' to pay more so I will ask to see what can be done. It doesn't mean I won't pay more but if I don't ask I don't get.

I've had my fair share of issues with the Orange network in the past, no worse than others on here and no more than would affect any other mobile network. But though a price rise is legal.....is it moral??

And I didn't get a pay rise this year and my pension & conditions are under review by my employer so in turn I review everything I'm doing. Ultimately do I 'need' a mobile phone? No. Do I want one? Yes, if I can afford it.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • So just got off the phone with Orange. Apparently they're 'reviewing the decision' I'm now waiting for a text to confirm that my request was refused because the decision is under review. Anyone else heard this?
  • Afternoon folk I'm new here so please be gentle. This is a long thread but I wondered if anyone has raised the fact that the contract refers to the Central Statisical Office (CSO) rather than the current Office for National Statistics (ONS)? The CSO was replaced in 1996 so I doubt very much that they have issued anything in the last 15 years let alone the last 12 months. Wondering if the change could be challenged on that basis?

maybe it will go up but at least us the end users are standing up for whats right !

p.s i do not think the prices will stay the same as orange will do what is right for them as it is a big company who will have a team of top lawers who will find any loop holes we might use & block them so we do not have a leg to stand on.

but where is the harm in trying ??? if they ring back they ring back but i can not see that too happening, so time will tell.
  • i for one is making money plans & trying to cut corners as i work for my self so if i have a bad week or bad month i need some saving to cover my bills.

but i am lucky as my over heads are small & i do not really buy stuff i do not really need & i do not really go on dear holidays so all my money is counted for at times.

i know it is a few pounds but all the money we can save these days is a must sorry to say, but i am not ranting on for the fun of it.

well i am in away as its sun & i am a bit board, so i will ring them on mon & see what they say, & check on here now & then for any updates.

    cheers all

Not sure, but if Mr Swantee is CCed by them then they probably are looking into it, He is the one that (in theory) makes the decisions on this.

DUTR pretty sure at least one or two of your posts wasn't a troll :P
