Went to sewing class today,
took two dresses with me, one was a floor length blue velvet dress (dark) with long sleeps and a V neck, it looked very out dated, (I bought it in a charity shop a few years ago for fancy dress)
I've now made it wearable by making it knee length! (I would never wear so much heavy fabirc all over) and I am working on taking it in at the moment to give it a bit of extra shape.
i am also doing the same with a floor length velevet dress I've had in my wardrobe for 10 years ( halloween) .
As for sewing machines, I got mine as a gift from my parents for christmas, which they bought of Ebay , it was £30 (they wanted to know if it would do the job right! ) and works fantastically, it is 20 years old but it does everything I need it too! So keep an eye out for bargains.Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

I have enough blue velvet to make a top from !
I was wondering if anyone has had much experience changing a neckline?
one of my velvet dresses has a V neckline, and i would love it to be a scoop/bare shouldered dress.
how difficult would this be to achieve?Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

Sorry SB I can't help but why not PM Georgiabay and ask her. She is really good at re-fashioning things and might be able to give you some pointers.
Memory Girl, that sofa is fantastic :T, you wouldn't believe it was the same piece of furniture. Love the inspiration behind it to but  at the price. What is the Matrix please?BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

Hi
We have a couple of ladies in our church who can turn items of clothing into something else, it's remarkable. I'd love to be able to do that. One lady turned a skirt into a tunic top, then sewed in knitted sleeves, and a roll neck collar, and it looks fantastic. I'm going to ask her if she'l give me lessons :-)

Hi ladies,
Great idea for a thread. I haven't been online much as I an working away with no interent or phone signal!
So I have started my first patchwork quilt, as something to do in the evenings, its all by hand as I can't take my machine to work, but it is going really well. I have finished all the blocks and I am now adding the boarder and doing some embroidary on the blocks to give it more texture.
I am really enjoying it so far0
