    Hi.

Hi Lindsykin :-) Try the boys with the sewing machine, you might find they like it !!!! :-)
We picked up a machine for my 24yr old today at Poundstretchers, knocked down from £50 to £25 :-) She's really pleased with it. It's portable, and she can take it to her boyfriends with her :-)

I agree if you haven't already tried the boys with the sewing manchine give it a go. I took my sewing machine into the holiday club I was working in and it was all the boys that wanted to have a go. A lot of them were fascinated to see how it worked. It turned into a science lesson as well as a craft activity.

What a great thread, thank you.
I have been sewing since I was a small girl and I'm now 53.
I have a Janome machine that I bought about 20 years ago and an old Singer that was a Christmas present from my Mom & Dad nearly 40 years ago (it was second hand then). The Singer needs a new foot pedal really must sort that out.
Although I love sewing, I never seem to have the spare time to get the machine out.
This time last year I bought the fabric to make a new door curtain for the hall. It`s still in the bag, heading tape is in the car and thread on top of my desk.
Really need to make that curtain this week. You have inspired me.
Also took the bathroom curtains down yesterday to wash them and the curtain has shrunk. Have unpicked the hem to lengthen it. That`s another job for this week.
Look forward to hearing about all of your projects.
  • Right I have finally made a start on sewing my Christmas trees. Have only done 2 so far and I will need to get stuffing tomorrow. Will be popping into Wilko's and picking up a couple of cushion pads or pillows and using that. I have done a cream tree that is the shape of three triangle sat on top of each other and a green one which is a big triangle shape. The green one was obviously very easy and quick to do, so I have decided to do a mix of both but probably erring on the side of the big triangle.

Will try and post pics when I have done them.

Just as an aside but Lidl have their sewing machine coming up again on the 15th December, might be a worth a mention to family about it and it could end up as a Christmas pressie :D

The video is worth a watch for the laugh, if nothing else.

This is the machine I have and although I have only used it a couple of times I am very happy with it at the moment.

  • That machine looks very good . A friend of mine wants a new one and she is a regular LIDL shopper so I will recommend it to her. Noticed when I clicked on the link that it had your local store down as Melksham. Do you live near there Tiger feet? My sisters live in Chippenham and are hoping to move to Melksham in the New Year. I'm just over the bridge on the border of Wales and England. I now have my dedicated sewing area having purchased a sweet little desk from IKEA,but will have to go back to knitting over Christmas when my DD is back from Uni as it's in her room!!
Have managed to do another 4 blocks today only 6 more pieced blocks to do, I thought it was more but every other block will be plain fabric with just quilting. I want to have a go at one of those trees they look great. I'm sure I have Christmas fabric in my stash. Keep stitching.:j

    Small world Miffy :)

Wish I had an area I could setup permanantly instead of the dining room table, I am so green. I have some shelves in my bedroom that I hope to clear and keep my sewing stuff on.

Glad to see that you are getting on with the quilt, bet you feel so good to see it growing.

  • It is a small world!!! I'm really pleased with how my quilt is going. I'm not usually good at finishing things but I'm determined to get this done. My DD has her birthday in March so I'd love to finish by then. I'll have to go back to the dining room table while she's home which is a pain because people keep wanting to eat.....so selfish!!!!!!!!!:D

  • So true. I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with sewing, texted my friend the other day and said my job was getting in the way of my sewing, she totally agreed. Unfortunately I can't afford to do that and can't retire for a few years yet!!!!!!! Must check my lottery ticket ,now that would be good!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am lucky I am a SAHM but my house is drowning in detritous at the moment. I have been seriously ill for a while and with 3 kids everything went to pot. So I am trying to remedy the situation plus doing all the running around having 3 school kids entails, plus trying to keep the basics going, plus trying to have some time for doing what I want to do. It ain't working very well at all for now but I hope to get there and then be able to dedicate time to sewing without feeling guily.
