Oh *cry. I want to join in but I can't
I don't have a machine. I really, really, really would like a machine but see no way of getting a one (money.... or lack of) I've been trying on freecycle since August but nothing yet. I won't give up.
I have seen a machine on John Lewis for around £70 so I guess for now that is my goal. After Christmas I am going to set up a savings pot in the hope of being able to get a basic model.
You can hand stitch a certain amount as long as it is a small project or simple lines.
I have a very simple Liberty print skirt a friend made - two straight panels, top and bottom hem, gathered at the waist with a self tie belt. She used running stitch with a back stitch at intervals on the sides, back stitch on top , hemstitch on the bottom. Simple. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You can pick up old hand crank Singers for £20 in plenty of places (ebay, markets, 2nd hand shops etc.) - maybe that is more affordable?Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

Hi
I'm going to get my machine out again, spruce her up and replace missing feet etc. I homeschool, and I want to do more practical stuff with my daughter. I know she will enjoy it :-) Also one of my older daughter's and I are going to learn patchwork. I have done it before, but not for years.
Great thread, I'm enjoying it :-)

Wanted to send a quick  to a fellow homeschooler! Wish my boys were into sewing i might be able to fit in all my crafting thenDD is too little to join in with me yet although she has been known to sit on my lap and watch the machine going.
I have a big problem of starting too many projects and getting bored half way though. Have a big pile of sewing and knitting i need to finish. Think reading this thread will give me a kick up the bum to try and get some things finished. I love that sofa!0 -

Great idea for a thread. I haven't been online much as I an working away with no interent or phone signal!
So I have started my first patchwork quilt, as something to do in the evenings, its all by hand as I can't take my machine to work, but it is going really well. I have finished all the blocks and I am now adding the boarder and doing some embroidary on the blocks to give it more texture.
I am really enjoying it so far
Can i ask if you have got a pattern/instructions for making a hand sewn one that you could point me to? Always wanted to make a quilt and would much rather be sat watching the tv that an the table with the sewing machine in the evening0 -

Hi.
Hi Lindsykin :-) Try the boys with the sewing machine, you might find they like it !!!! :-)
We picked up a machine for my 24yr old today at Poundstretchers, knocked down from £50 to £25 :-) She's really pleased with it. It's portable, and she can take it to her boyfriends with her :-)

Today I turned some vintage scarves into Cosys for Ipods/phones!
You know the silk types of scarves as opposed to the woolen type.
Anyone got any easy/ interesting projects? I'm interested in recycling things when I sew! Anything to use up scraps of fabricWeightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)
