Popped into Wilko's today and bought some of their basics pillows. They were £2.97 for 2 pillows and because of the way they were packaged I ddn't think it would go far so I bought two packs. Got them home and opened the pack and the pillow sprung to life. I sliced one open and 1 pillow has filled 2 big Christmas tree's and a medium sized one :T. So I am a very happy girl today :D My local sewing shop was selling toy stuffing in a smaller bag than one pillow for £5 so I am very chuffed with my bargain.

I want to make a couple more tomorrow if I can to complete the scene.

  • What a bargain. Have managed another 2 blocks today should have finished the third one but I have another stinky cold so watched a cheesy christmas movie instead. I was sorry to read that you have been ill and hope you are on the mend now. Being a SAHM is a hard job but one of the most worthwhile. I stayed home with mine when they were little and there just never seemed enough time to do everything. Mine are grown up now but I work full time as a teacher so lucky enough to get school holidays.
Only 1 more week at school and then I can think about christmas in my house.Looking forward to a rest and more sewing or knitting.:j

Today I turned some vintage scarves into Cosys for Ipods/phones!

You know the silk types of scarves as opposed to the woolen type.

Anyone got any easy/ interesting projects? I'm interested in recycling things when I sew! Anything to use up scraps of fabric :)

Tea towel into a nice apron:

With a little personalisation, it could make a fab gift.

I liked these wheat heat bags. You can use uncooked rice instead, but the fabric has to be 100% cotton to be microwave safe :D

  • Thanks Miffy :) I am partially disabled anyway and then had this illness on top, it just floored me completly. Was fairly much bed bound for 6 weeks or so from September and then have gradually eased my way back with doing a little at a time. Still not 100% but definatly better than I was.

My DH is a teacher too and is counting the days till the holidays as he is absolutly cream crackered.

I'm thinking of doing that heart garland that Kirtie made last week next, just need to get some bondaweb.

One thing I did find with my Christmas trees is when I finished and turned them back in the right way where the internal corners were on the 'branches' it was quite puckered. When they were stuffed it wasn't too bad but any ideas what could be causing it? Could it be the tensioning?

I'm getting my very first full sized sewing machine for Christmas and have been collecting easy ideas and scraps of fabric to practice on. So excited! :j

You need to snip to the sewing line on the inside several times - then the fabric will overlap like petals on the inside and lie flat as opposed to gathering like a ruffle and looking puckered when you turn it through.

Does that even make sense??? Sorry I have been plaster boarding all day and am pooped.

That's great news on a new machine MandM. Happy sewing. I love the link to the tea towel apron , I have bookmarked that site and shall read it later.
Tiger feet I was just about to say the same as Memory Girl. snipping to the seam eases the curve and should give you a smoother result. Can't wait to see the photos.Have been very naughty tonight and ordered more fabric for my DD's quilt.Shouldn't feel bad because I'm hoping it will become a family heirloom!!!!!!!:)

I finished my top tonight, I've been working on it awhile, this was my first sewing project a few months ago when I started sewing, just went back and altered the size!

I found the fabric in a charity shop a few years ago, so I can't remember how much it cost!

Didn't realise how bulky the back was though untill I had this photo taken!
