Even if I knew there was going to be a special offer on something I would only buy what I needed no one needs 16 tins of deodorant FGS.

    At between 5p and 10p a tin I'd definitely say that's something worth doing. £2 a tin vs 16 for £1.60? It's a no-brainer in my opinion.

Plus I couldn't understand why her and her OH were eating perfectly nice food and the boys were being filled up with junk food (even if it was free)

This post will possibly explain that for you. :)

I have to agree with you, especially if you have two sons as I do. Wish I'd not missed that offer!

I've read the link. I still think not paying for the food at the church was not right. Myself and some friends put on this type of meal at our church. We do the advertising, flyers, setting up,buying, washing up etc etc etc. We still buy a ticket each. We still pay for wine if available at £2 a glass, knowing we paid only £4.50 a bottle. One of the ladies is incredibly generous and even donates items, such as 1,000 teabags or £40'sworth of cheese, several loaves of bread etc etc. Its about making money for a charity ,not about grabbing what you can and getting a freebbie. Thats morally wrong in that situation IMO.

OK, I can understand why he is annoyed on her behalf, but we, the audience. could only go on what we saw.
We had no way of knowing that they were part of a fictional play rather than a genuine documentary.

I wonder if coupon lady's kids are like my DS2 whose diet is mainly pizza and sausages at the mo :D

Having been a small part of Tv progs a couple of times (not this topic) I can guarantee that the Tesco scenes would have been faked up to look like just a normal shopping day... but do you really think that MrT would let cameras in unannounced ?- everything has to be milked for the maximum promotion, esp as they reinforced it by having the ad breaks too. They will be hoping peeps turn up with loads of vouchers now and when they are refused at the til people will just buy the stuff anyway Kerching!

Quotes are from the husband of the featured 'voucher lady'

'The programme was a quirky light hearted somewhat surreal look at lives of frugal people not to be taken too seriously, obviously some people did not get this'

Thousands of money savers were looking forward to the programme, perhaps we didn't 'get it' because it wasn't advertised as being quirky and lighthearted. Frugal people take their money saving very seriously, the posts on this thread prove that.

'Permission from Tesco was required prior to shopping & the shopping was made under strict condition and under supervision by Tesco management. Had they deemed Judith to be abusing voucher use then filming would have stopped, since Tesco advertised during last nights ad breaks it proves they were not duly concerned re the content of the film. The programme content was also scrutinized by the C4 legal dept so any suspicion of illegal/fraudulent use of vouchers would have been picked up and taken out the film.'

Good old Tesco, will do anything for publicity. Pity their policy of accepting so many coupons doesn't follow through at all their branches. Speaking of which we still don't know how she got all those tokens?!

'Our family dinner & discussion was comical, I cannot believe anyone took this seriously'

Why? Again it was never at any time pointed out it wasn't meant to be a serious programme

'After the filming we increased the sum to £250 and donated £125 to Tearfund & £125 to the Fairtrade Foundation'.

Yet again, we weren't told this so the comments made by the husband are hardly justified.

What a pity a programme so many were looking forward to had to turn out like this and cause so much friction :(

It didn't "cause friction". People on this board caused friction. Of course it's all exaggerated, it's tv! It's channel 4!! She made lots of money for the charity and you're all talking like she stole a donation box. Do you think that woman would have posted here if she thought you were all going to assume she was some evil grasping cow? It's such a shame that she's been driven off. This is meant to be the friendliest board of a friendly forum - can we try to act it, please?

I think the 'friction' comes down to some people being too ready with a negative remark or three.
