Well done on becoming debt free this month...apart from the mortgage...and good luck. I do a £100 OP each month as a Standing order, then i pop into the branch every time i have extra. Just make sure when you go to pay any extra in branch that you make it clear to them that it's an OP and not money towards next months payment. There is a fab spreadsheet you can use to show you how your OP are impacting on the interest you pay:) I didn't design it i think credit goes to financial bliss but if you search there is a link for how to do it on here.0 -
Hello
I joined this thread in January but have not updated until now.
I am overpaying by £250 a month so have overpaid £1,000 so far. We are hoping to finally clear the mortgage this year.

So with a little bit of jiggery-pokery, I’ve borrowed from my savings to pay an extra 150 today. The reason for this, is we’ve now been in our house for 1 exactly 1 year, and I realised that with this payment, we’ve paid off 12% in the year. An average of 1% a month works for me! Have paid off another £500 overpayment this month taking this year to £1670 so far
Just had to have a word with our mortage provider who'd seen our overpayments and reduced down the monthly amount we pay by direct debit - meaning we wouldn't be payijng off quite so much each month. Was annoyed as I'd specifically asked them never to do this when the mortgage was set up. Nevermind, they've changed it back now but something to watch out for in the future...MFW 2015 so far..... £1808.702014 - £1451 2013 - £1600 2012 - £4145 2011 - £5715 2010 - £3258:)

I'm actually happy for them to lower my standard monthly payment as I have a policy (Life, Critical, Redundancy) and I've noticed that the monthly premium rises and falls when ever the standard monthly payment has.
On 1st May my SVR goes up to 3.99% but because I've been OP'ing my Standard Mortgage Payment will actually go down by about £50 I think. So I'm hoping that when my Standard Payment goes down by X, then my Premium will also go down a little by Y, so I then I will increase my OP amount by X+Y=Z.
Pfff well I know what I'm talking about even if no-one else does
Mortgage payments have now hit the balance and it's a rather seductive looking 26558. I really do have rounding down OCD at the moment, and am trying my hardest to be happy at the 26558 and not feel in the slightest bit sulky because its not 25999. Who am I kidding, what I really want is 24999 but I guess I just have to be patient0
