Sent Martin's letter two weeks ago to Northern Rock. I took my mortgage out with them in late 2002 and switched in October 2005. They have offered £55 - thanks very much, I'll take it!!!0

My husband and I had a mortgage with Cheltenham and Gloucester from 1991 to 1996. I phoned them on March 8 to ask if they could investigate a claim for repayment of exit fees. On March 15 I received a letter to say that they would repay the £40 exit fee we were charged, plus interest of £34.55. I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with it and am delighted to receive almost £75 I didn't know I was owed. Thanks, Moneysaving expert!0

We paid off our mortgage on our previous house with redundancy money. We didn`t know if or what we had been charged for doing this. used the template letter to write to them, HALIFAX, and have had £40 cheque back, simple as that. Thank you Martin.0

After waiting for the Britannia BS to respond they have just paid up £50 for me redeeming in June 2004 charged £100 should have been £50.
I did also query about the £35 deeds fee which I was told wasn't a discharge fee.0 -
To say it isn't a discharge fee is wrong, but it may be that the deeds fee was always £35 (on top of the £50 exit fee originally quoted) or that they consider that their increases in that fee are justifiable.0

I had a mortgage with A&L from Sept 1998 until Nov 2004. I had only 1 deal with A&L which was discounted for 3 years and variable for 2 years and I stayed with them a further year. Anyway when I moved to the Nationwide I was so angry at being charged £295 to leave them especially when I wasn't in any deal. I wrote to A&L at the time saying how disgusted I was and I got a reply basically saying TO BAD!!
I was overjoyed when I saw this on Martin's site. I contacted them about 6 weeks ago by sending Martins Template. I received a cheque for £100 2 wks later at which initially I was happy with but when I thought more about it I wasn't happy. They were giving the the refund for the change they made in 2004. Not the cost it was in 1998. So I contacted them and they said to send back the cheque. I was a bit apprehensive but sent it back all the same.
To my joy I received the £100 cheque back along with a further cheque for £135 so in total I've a £235 refund. People who took out there mortgage prior to 2004 don't give up!! Don't let them fob you off with there first offer.
Thanks so much Martin for the advice

I've noticed a lot of people are initailly being fobbed off with an initial offer of £100 from A & L. I was, I banked that cheque, asked for more and have just received another cheque for £120.
£220 total from A & L !!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
As quoted above, don't let them fob you off with the first £100 offer. It will only cost you another stamp (or phone call). So far 3 stamps and £360 back.
:money: Ta Martin !!!0
