Just to say thank you very much - got cheque from Leeds Building Society for £70 today. Am still waiting from Principality Building Society. Great - thank you - all for the cost of a couple of letters and stamps!0

Thanks Martin - Great tip.
Following your Money Tip of 07 March 2007, I phoned C&G to ask as I had remortgaged last year with a closing fee of £225. Five mins later, a nice lady told me I had been overcharged £135 plus £11.91 interest.
Have just received confirmation letter from C&G, and what a great result,
£146.91 refund for a five minute phone call.
I wonder how much you have saved for people on this topic alone?
Thanks again.

Hi
Having read your article about exit fees I rang the dedicated line that you have shown for C&G and without any fuss I have been refunded £180.85 which is the difference between the quoted fee (£50) and the fee paid
(£225) plus interest at 1% over bank rate. Marvellous, how many people out there do not know!!!! Tell all your friends and NEW neighbours.0 -
Hi
Got a letter today from my bank (NatWest) that I get £140 back from my recently redeemed mortgage (They wanted £225 orginally from me).
But I have a question: What is actually the difference between a Sealing fee and a Deeds Release Fee? NatWest claims that when I took out the mortage the fee quoted was £85 which was split into £50 Sealing fee and £35 Deeds Release Fee .. this sounds abit like I have to pay twice (an amount) for administration done to close my mortgage account. Or in other words, is £85 for administration fees justified at all?
They say in the letter that they keep my case open for 8 weeks (to allow ample time for me to consider their comments); before I go back and challenge the £85 (or at least parts of it), I want to get my story backed up by people with experience and to get the fact rights.
Any help/guidance/advice is welcome and greatly appreciated.0 -
Thanks for the advice. Have had following successes:
C&G - quick phone call (0845 6031637), very helpful. Received a refund of £37 + £7 interest (BoE base rate + 1% since mortgage closed) by cheque within 5 days.
Woolwich - again, quick phone call (08000 234180) and also very helpful. Received a refund of £100 + £9 interest (4% since mortgage closed) via BACS within 5 days.
BM Solutions - not quite so helpful at first. When I originally phoned them in early February they told me that they had not made a decision on this issue and that I should call back in March (they would not contact me). Rang the other day (I used 0845 3002627) and they confirmed that I was due a £50 refund which will be sent to me by cheque shortly. However, they are NOT paying any interest - they have made a note of my complaint in this regard and say they will contact me. Let's see if they do....
With each of these providers, I asked them about refunding back to the 'true' cost of the exit administration, but they told me that they would only refund the difference between the amount originally stated in my contract and the actual exit fee I paid. So if anyone has made any further progress with this then I'd be very interested!0 -
Read the article on Tuesday Evening. Phoned the Halifax and with in 5mins I was £100 better off. I didn't even have account no's, date's. Just gave name and address and was told i had been overcharged £100.00. Also spoke to Bank of Scotland (previous mortgage) they will contact me to let me know if i am due anything.
