I am over the moon. I rang The Woolwich on the number Martin gave and within 3 mins they have refunded the 100 over charge + interest. Wow. It will be in my bank account within 3 working days.
Thank you Martin:j :j0 -

When did you take the mortgage out and when did it end?0

Hi. After help from this site last week I sent a letter to Mortgage Trust requesting a refund for £135. Today I received a letter stating that my mortgage did not fall under the jurisdiction of the FSA, however, as a gesture of goodwill they sent me a cheque for the full amount requested. Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!0

I took my mortgage out in June 04 and settled in full in Aug 06. I was charged £175.00 "redemption" - I thought I may as well try so called the number listed on this site. The agent on the phone was excellent - advised me I had been overcharged £75.00 as it was only stated as £100 in my original contract....I have a cheque coming within the next 28 days! Was so easy to do - no arguements or proof required - just gave them my old roll number and passed a few security checks....I'd definately recommend doing this!
Thanks to Martin & everyone who contributes to this site - hopefully get some news back on my bank charges as well soon!0 -
Just wanted to write this for anyone who is nervous about phoning up about claiming back these fees.
I took out a mortgage with Standard Life in 2003 and fees then were £150. When I re-mortgaged in May 2006 I was charged £200 and £30 for deeds release.
When I rang up, I said I wanted to talk about getting a refund of the fees I was charged when I left Standard Life. The man didn't need me to over explain or go into detail (phew, cos I didnt know what I was talking about really, I was totally chancing my arm!!). Anyway he said he would pass this on to the right dept and I should receive a letter, AND a cheque. Wow that easy!! He say they are busy (cos they have had loads of enquiries!!) and it would take 5-7 days. Don't know what I will get back but anything is better than nothing. So far so good. So get dialling even if you dont know what you are talking about. They have had so many calls they will know what you mean and process it anyway probably.0 -
EARLY REDEMPTION PENALTY - ROOFTOP MORTGAGES
Going after this company after they charged me a whopping £5,400 as an early repayment penalty, for redeeming the mortgage after 2yrs. I was outside of a fixed term and whilst I accept the ERP was included in the contract this seems somewhat inflated don't you think??Paul Merrifield0 -

Keater,
the best way to find out is to request the info with the template letters that martin has posted in relation to bank charges.
Go for it! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

August 2004 - opened 2yr fixed rate mortgage with Natwest. Sealing fee set at £100
August 2006 - 2yr fixed rate ended, moved to First Active, sealing fee £225. Complained but told that's how it was.
February 2007 - complained and asked for £125 back. Sent standard letter taken from (I think) thisismoney site
March 2007 - £125 put back into my account by Natwest
