I have no idea what I have paid in fees apart from the last one with Abbey. All I have is the statement to clear the account with the redemption fee on it. I have no idea what the fees were stated when I took it out in 2004. All I have from the mortgage before from the Woolwich is the account number and no account no for the Halifax before that. I remortgage every 2 years.
I intend to phone but what should I be saying when I phone and what am able to do about the Halifax one I have no details off.
I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!

Look at the This is Money table here: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/mortgages/article.html?in_article_id=417037&in_page_id=8 which answers most questions about what fees were and what they are now. Nationwide didn't charge anything until they introduced the current £90 fee, so for most customers a £90 refund will be appropriate IF they got charged £90.

Update 24 hours later:j cheque refund of £195 will be :A its way to you shortly.
Looking at the way the figure has been calculated no allowance has been added for interest has anyone received this from B&B.
Will give them a ring on Monday to see if this is achievable

B&B are adamant :naughty: that they will not pay any interest on the refund amount. If anyone achieves this i would like to know. Its a pity the interest would have been the icing on the cake:dance:

I read Martin's email last week and decided to call the Halifax to get the form from them as detailed in his table.
I had our previous role numbers with them, originally having taken out a mortgage in 1988 with them and moved in 1996, then we subsequently remortgaged with Intelligent Finance. I gave the lady our name and address and roll number for the current house and she immediately gave me the figures of what we were charged and what we should have been charged -no quibble, just ' you've been overcharged £35 and we can send you a cheque. I then asked about the previous house and lo and behold an overcharge of £20 for that house.
She said the cheques will take some 28 days to arrive and that was it - 5 minutes conversation and £55 back. HTH and many thanks to Martin:beer:
  • I contacted The Halifax/Bank of scotland about 2 mortgages I closed in 2003. I was informed that the mortgage paperwork clearly stated the fee of £150 and that the Bank of Scotland will not be paying any refunds to any customers. Unfortunately I don't have my original paperwork to check this.
  • Hi took out mortgage with nationwide and from Martin's table it looked as thought there was no closing fee stated in contract. Charged £90 to close in January this year. Sent off Martin's request letter re: what the contract said. No longer had paperwork here. Cheque for £90 arrived a week later.
    Thanks v v v much!
  • I have received £120 from Scottish Widows, after paying £195 for an originally quoted MEAF of £75. They took about 3 weeks to reply.

Still waiting for £50 from IF. Their first reply was 'oh no we won't', but I am adamant that their Ts & Cs said no charge would be payable, so it's back in their court.

I have been told by Halifax that I am entitled to £25 for account closed in 2002 having paid £75 instead of £50. Cheque to be issued within 28 days.
Woolwich are going to credit my account with £112.02 £100 +£12.02 interset for account closed in 2004.
Abbey are to send forms for account closed in 2006. As I paid MEF of £225 hoping to get something back for that.
Not bad so far £140 for 3 calls lasting total of 10 mins.
