My first post - Yippee!!
Have just got off the phone (only on there 5 mins) to C&G querying my MEAF. Only had to give them my old mortgage account details (no longer with them - left in Oct 2003) and they worked out the MEAF I paid, should have paid and gave me a figure for the refund (including interest).
I'm now £60.09 richer!! (not a great deal but better in my pocket than theres!!)
Cheers Martin for all your efforts and keep up the good work.

I got my cheque from Abbey last week. Surprisingly simple seeing as I closed the account 2 years ago & no longer have any paperwork.
I sent a copy of Martins initial enquiry letter, they sent me a form to fill in, I returned it & voila - cheque for £38 (the overpayment I made on the exit fee)
whole process took 3 weeks from start to finish. This year, I will mainly be kicking some serious money saving butt!0 -
I wrote to the Woolwich using one of the templates, they replied within a week, and gave a freephone number to call. When I called Iwas advised that I was owed £145, and that if I supplied my bank account number the amount would be credited to me. That was done by CHAPS within 48 hours. Thanks MSE!!0

We've just had £125.50 back from YBS - rather more than we expected.
Please, will people stop banging on about trying to recover the entire amount. There is absolutely no basis for doing this. Martin mentioning it is just raising false hopes. If the FSA believed there was a legal case for insisting on this, they'd have done so. They haven't, because there isn't.0 -
I got £65 back from the cheshire today. Only sent Martin's initial letter as couldn't rememeber any details, they said i WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TILL mARCH AND TODAY A CHEQUE FOR £65. tHANKS VERY MUCH mARTIN!0

I phoned the A7L 2 weeks ago - they automatically logged my call as a complaint, didn't even ask for a letter and have just sent me a cheque for £145.00 - the difference between fees 'now and then'. Thanks Martin for your help.0

How far back can I claim?
I changed mortgage from Woolwich to RBS in 2000. I assume I can make a claim for overpayment of fees for that time.
In 1998 I moved house and changed mortgage from Abbey to Woolwich. Might I also be able to claim for overpayment of fees there?
Thanks0 -
I redeemed a mortgage in June 2004 with Woolwich: don't recall what I paid in exit fee but thought it worth an enquiry. 26 Feb: wrote to them. 9 March: reply from Barclays Mortgage Servicing, inviting me to ring a dedicated number. 13 March: rang them, they were helpful and courteous – and immediately, over the phone, refunded £140 plus £5.02 interest into my current account. This is a model of how it should be done: it took just two weeks and was entirely trouble-free. So to anyone who had a Barclays or Woolwich mortgage I unreservedly advise: contact them immediately, it's easy!
PS I wrote two letters the same day to MBNA re credit card fees – and have not even had a reply yet.0 -
Hi All
Just to let you know, using the letter from here I applied for a refund of exit fees from Nationwide on Monday of this week, posted it Monday, and received a full £90 refund yesterday!
To be honest, it was an old mortgage and I wasn't even sure whether the exit fee was in the signed paperwork or not. Just thought I'd apply and see what happened! :-)
