I am ever so excited! THE OH phoned Abbey on 5 March who said they would investigate but it could take up to 4 weeks or something. So we sent the template letter off on 6 March as well. On 7 March we received their "Mortgage Repayment Fee Enquiry" Form which we filled in and sent back the next day. Today a letter dated 15 March arrived with a cheque for £175.00 attached, so we know now that the fee in March 1991 was £50. I can't describe the feeling, it is incredible to finally get somewhere and I think I started yodelling!
The funny bit is that under separate cover we received a second letter today from Abbey thanking us for our recent enquiry and could we please fill in the attached Repayment Enquiry Form. It was signed by the same bloke! ROFLOL.
Thank you Martin, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH0 -
So, I just moved my mortgage to One account and Abbey charged me £295 for a mortgage redemption fee - am I right in thinking it's worth a swing at trying to reclaim it?? - If I had just moved mortgage they wouldn;t have charged me and all thelegal work was paid for the move by One Account.
I'd appreciate a tip off here
Thanks

Hi All,
I sent a letter off to my former lenders, Kensington Mortgage Co about the MEAF, as it had increased by £45 - not a huge amount I know, but thought it was worth a try. However they sent a letter back saying that the FSA said the lender should be able to justify an increase in any MEAF. They then went on to quote costs they have incurred which have increased such as staff costs and charges by their 'third party administrator'. So they beleive they have justified the increase and won't refund me. Is there any more template letters I can send? Or is it worth going to the Ombudsman? I would appreciate any comments.
Thankyou0 -
We have also received a cheque for £175 from Abbey today. That is a hefty chunk towards the new fee that we will have to pay our new lender at the very end of our mortgage, which of course is one of the higher fees as we remortgaged in February :j
We are very pleased with this as from the information that we found here, and on other sites, we were hoping for £126. Curiously they refer to £50 being the amount quoted in our mortgage contract, but although I have the paperwork I cannot find any fee mentioned anywhere.0 -

Neither did we - I think they just mentioned the fees in leaflets sent out at the time which he hadn't got anymore.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

That was the conclusion that we came to, and as each new leaflet came we threw away the old one to cut down on clutter.0

Hi,
I redeemed a woolwich mortgage in January, which I've had since 2001.
I rang the dedicated number from Martin's guide to reclaiming (0800 234 180) and without even having to ask for my money back, they found my details and informed me I was due a £180 refund, plus interest of £2.16.
Excellent! They took my bank details, money on its way. £180 as it was originally £90 and I paid £275.
Thank you!! :money:0
