A 3 minute call to Woolwich has just netted me back £110.90 ... to be paid straight into my current account.

Actual Exit Fee (£195) - Should have been Exit Fee (£95) + interest of £10.90.

Abbey are being a bit more awkward - I have to fill out a form and send it back.

Phoned the Halifax this morning ... cheque for £100 coming my way, my thanks to them for a fast effcient response.
Phoned A&L say that my £75 fee does not apply back from 2002 so started dispute process with them.
Phoned Legal & General (now Northern Rock Mortgages) ... I have to write a letter - I sense this may be more of a challenge but there is a £300+ prize here but will keep this updated.
  • Hi,
just to let you know I sent the template letter to the C&G 1 1/2 weeks ago and had a reply today. We had our mortgage with them from 1997 to approx 2003 and they have said they have sent a cheque for £80 plus interest of £11.91 under separate cover.

    Thanks Martin.
  • Hey Martin and all you money savers.

Couldn't wait to tell you all. Me and my partner had double success.
We recently paid off two mortgages and where charged £275 for one and £175 for another.

I downloaded Martins letter and sent them off. The Woolwich/Barclays sent me a letter with a number to call. Just called them and they reduced the £275 fee to £90. They're paying me £180 plus £2.36 interest. No questions.
The Halifax wrote back reduced the fee from £175 to £40 and gave me back £135.

Martin you made me £317.36. And I just want to thank you. I am also very concerened for your personal safety. They'll be gunning for you now cause your costing them a fortune. :T

Redeemed three seperate Halifax mortgages since 2002, quick call to the number listed on here and £110 on it's way back to me being difference between MEAF charges at start of respective mortgages and what was actually charged.

They won't pay interest as they reckon FSA didn't say they have to but £110 is still v welcome and process was simple enough, they even happily tracked down the roll No for the oldest mortgage which neither I nor my conveyancer could readily locate. Could have pushed for the interest perhaps but will quit while I am ahead and watch on any future redemptions that's for sure.

    Nice one Martin.

Hi, Just got back £180 for my OH from Woolwich

Five minute phone call to their dedicated helpline number (as quoted in Martin's article) and the money will be in the Bank within 5 days.

    Thanks Martin

No such luck with Natwest for me though, As I took a new rate in 2005 I dont qualify for a refund because I "agreed" the new charge.

Now to carry on with our quest to reclaim Bank charges from Barclays
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T

    Halifax - £25
    Abbey - £126
MortgageTrust (was Britannic Money) - £100

MortgageTrust was a 'gesture' as the loan was unregulated apparently!

    :T
  • Hi, Phoned Royal Bank of Scotland, refund of £150 on it's way within 10 days. 4 minute phone call - result!

A&L did NOT charge £75 in 2002, so what's the basis of your dispute? The charge in 2002 was around £150 IIRC.
