i agree not the first time someone has recieved cutting remarks from this person!!!!!!
  • Thanks to MSE.com! I've just had the £126 clear in to my account which I've claimed back from Abbey who charged the £225 exit fee a year ago when I left them. Contract was £99. Hurrah! Their forms are a bit abrupt and do make it sound like they're doing you a favour, and once you sign it they really want the deal to be final and binding!
So why did I leave them? No amount of haggling would make them do me a deal, so as Martin says, I 'ditched and switched'. This site has saved me over £600 since April so far. Keep up the excellent work.

Today I received £220 back from A&L, no quibble but they did not mention that they really should pay me interest.

I remortgaged in 2001 but could not find any paperwork relating to fees from the Halifax (previous mortgage) I decided that the chances were they had probably overcharged me & just sent a letter saying "you overcharged me". They have agreed & offered me £35.

    Nicely in time for Christmas.

  • Wow, I can't believe how quick that was. This time last week I saw Martin on GMTV talking about these Exit Fee charges. I went online and immediately downloaded the template letter. Post it off to my old Mortgage Company (West Bromwich) on Thursday, and in todays post I get a letter offering me £325 refund. Magic. Thanks a bunch!!!! I love your website Martin. I phoned the Halifax today looking for a refund of the MEAF I was charged in 2000, I was told they are no longer looking at people's claims because of a new ruling by the FSA. Does anyone know if this is true?

I just got an offer (7/11/2007) of £35 for a mortgage I repaid in 2001 from the Halifax, so I dont know what their talking about. Put in in writing to them.

  • Hi
has anyone had any luck with National Home Loans. I had my mortgage with them til 6 years ago. they are a loan company rather than a high street mortgage lender so not sure if i would be eligible for refund?
  • Hi all,

I had a mortgage with teh Halifax from Sep 05 to Sep 07. I enquired two days ago with them regards to this refund, they quoted £25.00. I was charged £175.00 when I moved from Halifax recently. They stated that in Sep 05 the standard charge was £150.00. I stated that I could not remember seeing this at all, they stood firm saying that even though I may not have necessarily known about this charge, that's what it was and £25.00 is what I'm getting.

Looking at other peoples stories with the Halifax MEAP (£75 refund, £125.00 refund et al) I am pains to accept this from Halifax without asking other people what they have got back from them for Mortgages commencing around Sep 05.

Incidentally I got a cheque from the Hlaifax today (2 days after enquiring!) for £25.00. The covering letter just seemed too thankful for my "acceptance" of the "full and final settlement" of my complaint. This to me smacked of them trying to get me off of their books by offering a minimal settlement.

    Anyone got any info?

    Regards and thanks

    Graham
  • :j :j :j Thanks for the advice Highlandjean - I phoned them and they sent me a form. Five weeks later I received a cheque for £49 which I thought was a derisory offer so I returned it to them with another letter asking them to have a re-think and enclosed the original payment receipt letter from Abbey. Yesterday, a cheque arrived for £197.58 - yabbaddabbadoo!!!! It was definitely worth pursuing. Thanks Martin and Highlandjean - good result.
  • Hi

I'm new to this forum & just wondered if anyone had any success in terms of caiming back Redeption Penalties as opposed to MEAF's? Is the general response to Redemption Penalties 'tough - you get what you signed for'?

    Cheers
