We closed our mortgage with them in May 2004.
They have agreed to refund £110, this being the difference between the contracted amount and the fee charged.
Jusy waiting for the cheque...0 -
After 3 letters sent, the last of which I asked Northern Rock to provide a breakdown of their costs, I have received a letter today saying that although they feel their costs are justified, they do not want a lengthy complaint, so are offering me £445 as a goodwill gesture, which happens to be the same amount as both mortgage exit fees I have paid to them.
What a result.
Would like to thank Martin & all the team.
Hopefully will have some success now with my PPI claim against Bespoke Finance.
Cheers

after i got my refund i rang customer services to complain that i didn't get any interest and they agreed to send me a cheque for an additional £17.20, so might be worth a phone call.0 -
I had been putting this off for a long time, was it worth it as my exit fee 2.5 years ago was only £115 anyway? But eventually Martin's nagging got me into action, I phoned Halifax (NB: number on this site is 0845 which is charged higher than standard 01/02 numbers so used saynoto0870.com and got 01133809574). Gave it a call and they offered me £40 (difference between £115 and £75.
Now here it got tricky as I had received lots of leaflets at the time I took out my mortgage and some said the exit fee was £50 and some £75. But I told the bloke that it said £50, and he said he'd have to refer it to someone else. A week later I got an offer from them of £65 (£115-£50) no proof asked for.
All in all very easy - probably took less time than writing this note!0 -
IMPORTANT!!! Don't assume you can't claim just becuase your lender DID recently tell you of an exit fee increase (we had a further advance 6 months before we reapid our C&G Mtge).
It took me 3 letters and a threat of the Financial Ombudsman but C&G backed down and refunded me over £200.
Our exit fee when we took out the mtge was £30 but £225 when we repaid it. They had rightly informed us of increases. However, my argument was that a 900% increase in 9 years was unreasonable and did bot reflect the true cost of repaying a mtge ( i know it doesnt, I used to work fo them). I challenged them (as per FSA guidelines issued in JAN 2007) to tell me the actual cost involved - they refused and when I pointed out that the FSA expected themto be able to justify the costs by detailing them - they backed down. Worth knowing - dont be phobbed off.0 -
I was charged £225 to exit mortgage in 2006. After reading how to reclaim some of the charge I rang the number in the list and within a few minutes I'd recouped £140 of that charge. I await transfer to my bank account.
:TDebt free, the best way to be. :A0 -
Just spent 5 mins on the phone with Barclays/Woolwich regarding the fee and managed to secure a refund of £100 + £14 in interest with absolutely no hassle. The mortgage exit fee had been due to be £100 more but they reduced it as a "goodwill gesture" at the time of redemption as their customer service was appalling at the time. What a cheek!
Anyway, thanks Martin, much appreciated.0 -
I have just got off the call with C&G who were very helpful. I had a 5 year mortgage from 2000 to 2005. I was expecting something like £175 refund based on the table in the MEAF article. However, I added to my mortgage in 2004 for some home improvememnts and that involved a new contract signing. This is the date they base the refund on.
Anyhow, I will receive £45 + interest at 6.25% (£51ish) - not bad for a 3 minute phone call!
