:T Following Martin's appearance on GMTV, left it a while, then decided to write to the Halifax as I had paid £175 mortgage exit fee in August 2006. Within 3 weeks had a cheque for £125.
Many thanks to Martin.0 -
We made an early repayment of our mortgage with Abbey in July 2005. By chance, I recently noticed that we had been charged a fee of £225.
Remembering your article about this I phoned Abbey and they sent me a simple form to complete. Within days we received a cheque for £175.
Thanks Martin - can't believe how simple it all was.:j0 -

I phoned the Halifax today looking for a refund of the MEAF I was charged in 2000, I was told they are no longer looking at people's claims because of a new ruling by the FSA. Does anyone know if this is true?0

We remortgaged from Northern Rock to Nationwide on 1st October. We were charged a £250 exit fee which was stated in our signed agreement but which I thought was riduculous so I challenged it asking them for a breakdown of costs and to justify the charge. The first reply I recieved was a standard reply letter saying that the 'Board of Directors' did not allow a breakdown and that it was a fair cost for administration. I challenged this once again asking them to justify the costs and today I recieved a letter saying they were refunding me the full £250 to 'avoid further lengthly correspondence on the matter'!!!!!0

I checked through my details in my previous mortgage with C & G and found that they had charged me a "sealing fee" of £225 when it was stated as £40 in my two agreements.
Sent letter of on 29th October and received a reply today (3rd Nov) advising that they had reviewed my charges and they would be sending me a refund of £157.

Hi i checked out the posts on this site regarding claiming of mortgage fees. I found all my paperwork from when i changed my mortgage provider from Northern Rock to Hinckley & Rrugby in 2003. They charged a deeds despatch fee of £80 and a discharge fee of £95. I copied the templare letter and asked for a refund with interest. They replied to say that their discharge of mortgage fee was £100 at that time and will agree to send me a cheque of £75. I have to sign an acceptance declaration within 10 days. They made no mention of any interest to be refunded. I would first like to thank Martin, especially for his template letter. Just wondering if i should sign the declatarion to accept their terms ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thank you0

Do you work for Northern Rock by any chance?!! How am I as an individual bullying a huge company such as Northern Rock! I asked them to justify a fee, just like if I pay a garage invoice I expect to see what they have fixed on my car! Northern Rock chose not to justify the fee (or more than likely they couldnt) and gave me back my money. I didnt threaten them with court action etc etc. It would be a different story if it was your £250. Should you really be on a forum such as this if you dont agree with what people are trying to achieve?????????0
