  • just rang my mortgage providor, Bristol and West, as we are about to switch mortgage on the 30th of nov to the Woolwich thought i would ask what the MEAF was and ask for it to be lowered before the final settlement figure to save me having to claim it back, and the cheeky so and so`s said that because we took a further loan out of 15,ooo on our mortgage in 2004 that the fees would be taken from then and not when we first took out our contract!!!! they said we were informed of the rise in exit fees at the time of the further advance but i cant find any evidence of it on my paperwork ???? i do have one statement with the loan and the ridiculously high arangement fee of £199 for a further 15,000 !!! but no mention of the exit fee?? don`t really know where this leaves me ??? HELP:confused:
  • Hesitated at first to ring the Halifax re our mortgage exit fee charged last year. called 08451203033 and got recording asking for roll number, date taken out and date mortgage exit. Spoke to call centre agent who is sending us cheque for £100. There was no discussion at all, just a case of "yes we quoted a charge of £50 but charged you £150 so we will refund the difference" I didnt really have to say much at all. easy peasy. Thanks a million Martin. :money:
  • Hi just come off the telephone to GMAC mortgages who advised the redemption fee was £115.00 and £40.00 for the deedes. Unfortunately as we left these 3/4 years ago no longer have the paper work to check the contract and they have stated it was in the contract..oh well worth a call anyway!
  • Thanks To This Forum I Am Now £75 Pounds Richer.
A Simple 3 Minute Call To The Halifax Was All It Took.
I Had No Details Of My Old Mortgage And Was Asked A Few Simple Security Questions. Do It Now !
Next Up Is To Get In Touch With The Britannia To See If I Am Entitled To Anything From Them.
  • Thank you so much, Martin. I have just made the easiest £188.04 from one phone call to Barclays following your instructions to reclaim Mortgage Exit Fees. I used the Barclays freephone number you gave and it took less than 3 minutes. I am promised that I will have the cash in my account within 5 days! I urge everyone to follow suit!
    Keep up the good work!

  • I rang Barclays with my old morgage account number, my morgage finished 4 years ago.

I used the dedicated phone line & after a few security questions it was confirmed that they had overcharged me.

I have been told that my current account will be credited with £160.07 within 10 days the credit includes 4% interest as mentioned on this site.

    Just in time for xmas!!

    Thank you Martin.:T
  • Just wanted to what a great site and very useful emails. I contacted the Halifax yesterday as had 2 previous mortgages with them, all I had was my roll number and remembered roughly the start and end dates and wow were they helpful!! They happily looked it all up calculated it and explained it etc just Waiting on £130 in charges to be returned to me now Thanks. It inspired me to produce a leaflet which I have given to all my friends and family and now have a stack of them at our village post office to be given to all and asked our local reporter to mention the site and this particular article in the North Devon Journal. Thank You for all your efforts as I think just one small village in North devon will be reclaiming probably £1000+'s!!!
  • These guys are seriously geared up for this now. I phoned not knowing my mortgage number, just my address and approx end date. They checked a couple of security questions then credited me a lovely £80 plus interest. Telephone call took 9minutes and 57seconds including the waiting time to get through. Most satisfying feeling for a long time.
So if your in work like I was and got a couple of minutes spare give it a go.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.
