Read your article, sent a brief letter to Northern Rock - 1 week later they've agreed to a £35 refund (amount charged = £195 - £165 which was the DOM fee at the time the mortgage contract began).
:rotfl: Easy peasy £35 for the turkey!!

We've changed our Mortgage three times in the last 7 years. I called all three companies up on Monday. Leeds and Holbeck told me I'd paid £80 and they would refund me £20 by cheque; Royal Bank of Scotland phoned me back yesterday to confirm I'd paid £225 and they would refund me £150 by bank transfer which would take up to 10 days - it's in my bank today, only 1 day instead of 10!!! Dunfermline Building Society need "to investigate" and will contact me by mail. So result of £170 so far for three very short and easy phone calls.:j

Hi, I moved lender last year from Northern Rock to Halifax. I actually wasn't sure if Halifax absorbed the cost of the exit fee but I wrote to Northern Rock anyway who wrote back immediately saying that the fee should have been £175 and not the £250 that would have been charged at the time and have offered me the difference of £75 back. Great!0

Many thanks to your article on mortgage exit fees. I had finished my mortgage early this year with Abbey. They charged me £225. I wrote and complained, they sent me a form to complete and said they would refund less £99. I completed form, returned and said that when i took out my mortgage in 1985 the fee quoted was £35! They have now refunded me £175. The £99 fee was reduced to £50, which was ok with me just by writing a letter.
One again many thanks.0 -
8 Days ago I wrote to my previous mortgage lender Northern Rock using the standard template letter in the article asking them for a refund of over charged mortgage discharge fees (the mortgage was redeemed 18 months ago). Yesterday we received a letter advising that they will be sending us a cheque for £75 - not bad for 5 minutes work, thanks Martin !!!:j :T0
