  • I called the Alliance & Leicester after reading the e-mail on this website and received a cheque for £210 within a week. Mortgage with A&L finished in 2005. Very pleased!! Thanks!!
  • I just sent off two rapid letters after Martin's e-mail about the song. Immediate replys from both Mortgage holders.
Chelsea telling me that although they could have charged a fee of £50 - they actually made NO charge.
Northern Rock telling me that they did over charge me £135 and would refund that but no interest - as it was only three months ago I felt that was fair.
Thank you Martin - a little extra for Christmas!
  • :T  After reading about the Meaf on hear, I phoned the Halifax and within 5 days have a cheque for £100!! :D:D

I have also sent a letter to Northern Rock and am awaiting a reply! I am hopeful though!!

    Thanks MSE!!:D
I love bargains but freebies are better!! ;-)
  • Has anyone had a refund from the Zurich, an elderly lady I know was asking me about these refunds (MEAF) she,s a bit wary about calling them and I have,nt seen this company mentioned in any refunding posts , so possibly she was not overcharged . cheers.

    Hi

Rang Northern Rock on the Friday and was told where to write, which I did that day. Received a reply on the following Tuesday with an agreement to repay once they had received a signed form which was sent the same day. Refund received on Friday. One week from enquiry to receipt of refund.

Wow!!! Shame they're in such trouble.
  • Well it was as easy as it says in the article.

I called C&G using the number off this site. I spoke to them, they confirmed I had overpaid the fee by £90 but I was entitled to interest at 1% above BofE base rate and they gave me an extra £20.61 (£110.61 in total) not bad i think and just before christmas. :j

    Thanks Martin

  • Another success...

Called C&G and had it confirmed we had been overcharged £50 and would get £50 + £15 interest, then called Abbey and was advised it does appear we were overcharged £126, just have to complete a claims form and return it.

I'm really chuffed, 2 phone calls and I'm £190 better off.

    Thank you Martin !
  • Thanks Martin

Sent off the letter to NatWest/RBS and got a reply within a week saying that they will re-credit my account with £140.

    I am chuffed to bits!
  • I wasn't going to bother with this as my redemption was quite a while ago but then thought, well, why not other people seem to be getting money back. So I sent off a suitably re-worded copy of the template letter to Portman Building Society (now Nationwide) and what a result! When I took my mortgage out their exit fee was £92.50 they charged me £175.00 so they have now agreed to refund me £82.50. No interest mind you as it's not their policy but hey something's better than nothing now I have a little extra cash for Christmas, I'm just waiting for the cheque. Thanks Martin for making this possible. :j

    Thanks Martin.

I read your article three weeks ago and fired off a letter to Yorkshire BS right away. I had paid them £199 last year. Today I got a cheque for £125.50.
Writing that letter was the best-paid 15 minutes work I've ever done.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.
