hello every1

I heard that I could possibly get a refund of the final exit fee i paid halifax, and duly phoned them, as i changed my mortgage from them last year. They said i was entitled to a refund of £135 but as my original mortgage with them was joint names with my now ex-husband, the money would have to be split between the two of us. I was not having any of this it was ME who actually paid the final exit fee out of my new mortgage, not him, so why should he be entitled to any of it. I rang the FSA and told them what Halifax had said, and they agreed it was a bit unfair and i should let the Halifax know that if I didnt get the full amount i would be making an official complaint about them to the FSA Ombudsman. I told the Halifax this and they said they would look into it. A week later i got a cheque in my name only for the full amount of £135. I WON !!! So if there is anyone out there who could be in the same situation then you do not have to give half of your entitled refund to your ex-partner, I am the proof!!!0

I sent Martin's sample letter to Northern Rock last Wednesday and had an offer of £55 in the post on Saturday! I only had the mortgage account number and put the estimated fees on Martin's chart into the sample letter, so don't be put off if you don't have many details as you can still get a speedy result. £55 for writing one letter is great i think!
Just to let you know Northern Rock will not pay interest and you have to sign a letter saying you accept their offer as a full and final settlement but at least they give you a prepaid envelope.:j0 -
Success
NATWEST
I have an extra £140 coming back to me. Quick call to Natwest today and it's sorted.
I did have all the facts as I'd dug out my old paperwork but I didn't even have to mention any figures. Just said "I want to reclaim my old mortgage exit fees"...and they said hold on they'd go and check if I was due anything back!! That's all (just had to give mortgage account number and go through id details)
(For the record my mortgage MEAF was quoted as £85 in 1999 but paid I paid £225 as exit fee in 2005)
Wow, it really pays to be an MSE'er......thanks Martin xxx0 -
It is so easy. I had no information, ie acc no. only old address.
I made one phone call and it was all sorted. I have £191 18p going into my bank acc within the next couple of days. How many poeple can make that sort of money in a lunch hour. I am gobsmacked to say the least.
Thank you Martin.0 -
Paid of my mortgage last summer and thanks to this newsletter I have just successfully got back the £110 I was overcharged on the exit fee by my lender. Am really grateful to this newsletter - particularly for the application letter layout. Singing your praises to all and sundry. :T

When I paid my mortgage off ealier this year, I was not happy about paying the £225.00 redemption fee but was told by Abbey that it was the standard fee, so I paid it. I've now received a cheque for £160.00 from Abbey after sending them the reclaim form from this website. Many thanks.0

We redeemed our mortgage last year and were charged £175 by Mortgage Express. I couldn't find our original contract but sent off Martin's letter, guessing that the fees when we signed up had been about £100. Today I received a response from Mortgage Express admitting that the fees had been just £75. A cheque for £100 is on it's way. Not a bad return for a first class stamp. Thank you Martin.:j0

Contacted my mortgage lender about the release fees and less than 1 week later was sent a cheque for £175 .....cheers Martin....:T0

I downloaded the template letter, filled it in and sent it to to Cheltenham and Gloucester (now Lloyds) last Thursday. Recieved a letter this Wednesday apologising and saying that a cheque for £208.66 = £225 - £30 plus interest for one year of £13.66 will be sent to me shortly - what a great result for so little effort!
