Hi Everyone
Just to let you know that we can succeed:j
I contacted the Halifax, whom I had a mortgage with between 2001 - 2005 & got £40 refunded.
Then I contacted the Woolwich who I had a mortgage with between 1997 - 2001 & got 57.66p:T So Hootie get back onto RBS cos what they told you is a load of twaddle.........
I can also send a letter to the Woolwich for the 2 mortgages I had previously, which will total a further 60 quid:rotfl:
This was al done over the phone within 15 minutes, don'tbe fobbed of with excuses of letters, just get on the phone as the building societies/banks have dedicated phone numbers as on MSE & it does work:dance:

Checked my bank account today and the mortgage fee I reclaimed last week from Woolwich has been paid in. That was £82 for less than 5 minutes work. I'm now waiting for Birmingham Midshires.

It was just as you said........soooooo easy! I wrote to Birmingham Midshires and told them that I believed I had been overcharged 2 years ago. I had no account details but asked them to investigate. I received a letter to say that my original contract stated a mortgage exit fee of £80 and I was charged £150. They continued to say that although they could not uphold my complaint, (why not - sounds simple to me - I was overcharged on purpose), as a "gesture of goodwill" - ha ha! - they would send me a cheque for £70!!
Martin, you are a hero!!!0 -
Hi All,
Thanks Martin, we remortgaged back in November 2005 and were with Cheltenham and Gloucester. Sent off my letter a week ago and received a refund of £139.03. Wasn't sure whether we would get anything but am glad it paid off!!!0 -

Thanks to the article on reclaiming your exit fee's i will now be recieving £150!! I phoned the Royal Bank of Scotland who did charge £225, in Jan 06 - and without me even asking, they offered to pay the overcharge within 5 working days! Fantastic - i'm now ensuring all my friends and family contact their old lenders!
Thanks Martin!!!!

We made one phone call to Alliance & Leicester asking how much we'd paid in exit fees last year. They asked why so we said according to the FSA we may have paid too much. She said they would look into it. Received a letter couple of days later saying same thing. 2nd letter about a week later came with a cheque for £210! Think we had paid £295, happy with the £210 though - Cheers!
