It took less than a 5 minute phone call and the money should be in my account within 3-4 working days. £82. Wonderful.

Now I'm trying to claim from Birmingham Midshires for 2 mortgages. This is proving a little more difficult than Woolwich. First of all I didn't have my agreement numbers so she tried to search using my address (this is how Woolwich found details!). She suggested I go to my bank and ask them the reference for my direct debits which paid the mortgages. Luckily this took a quick phone call to First Direct and they gave me the numbers.

I phoned BM back and spoke to a different lady (Anita) who by some chance immediately located my previous mortgage accounts without me having to give her my information. I asked how she managed to locate me when Vicky couldn't locate me. I asked if maybe Vicky was trying to put me off...... Anyway Anita has put in a request and it will take about 2 weeks because "you can imagine the amount of calls we are having". I told her how Woolwich was able to do this all within 5 minutes. Anyway I'll let you know in 2 weeks if I've been successful. In the meantime I'm going to dig out my mortgage and see what I'm entitled to myself before they come back to me.

Just applied to A&L for my mortgage exit fee and got £100 for a 5 minute phone call. Every little helps ;)

Cheque turned up today but although been told it would be £100 to be refunded, it is actually for £210 with a letter of expplanation. Really happy about this
  • Hi, I wondered if anyone could advise me on the following:-:confused:confused:

I used the initial template letter to try to reclaim our mortgage exit fee overpayment and posted it on 2/8/07 to Abbey Plc and have not received a reply as of 25/8/07 even allowiing for the postal strikes. Should I write again using the stronger template letter or just wait a bit longer first? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    SUCCESS!!!

Just received a cheque for £100 from the Scarborough Building Society.

They initially refused our claim as the amount that was on our mortgage offer (£245) was the amount we actually paid. I persevered though, and wrote back to say that the mortgage offer they referred to was for a re-mortgage when we moved house, and we had no option but to keep that mortgage or pay a fortune in redemption. I asked to see the figures on the original mortgage offer when we first went to SBS, and it was £100 less. They have said that they're not agreeing with my claim, but sent the £100 as 'goodwill'. I don't care what it's called - it's £100 just the same!

    Thanks for all the advice!
  • Rang Skipton - gave me another Tel No to call. Thought 'here we go'

BUT.. ...Gave operator mortgage Roll No. and he said that 'my details had been registered'.

Within a week cheque arrived for £100. :j

    Efficient or what?

I moved house back in 2001 and changed my mortgage from the Woolwich.

I had a look at the fees and was charged:
    Deeds production fee - £75
    Deed Admin fee - £20

I actually thought I probably am not due anything back:confused: as this seems reasonable. But i made the call anyway, the amount overcharged was £45 with £13.23 interest
    Total = £58.23 :money: :money:

They do have a dedicated line to deal with these enquiries and it is very quick, and the person i spoke too was very nice.:T

Thanks very much for all the information to all involved in the site,

You are the true modern day Robin Hoods.;)
