  • Having already got one payout from C&G for just over 100 quid for a recent mortgage change, C&G have just agreed to send us another 50 quid for an older mortgage with them having chased them up following a lack of response to one of my original letter requests.
    Thanks Martin!:T
  • Charged £225 instead of £75 a year ago when I paid off mortgage. Rang today and within 10 minutes got full refund plus interest, £244 in total. Many Thanks MSE.:T
  • thanks MSEi followed the directions and spoke to two mortgage companies we received a cheque from each company, 1 for £50.00 and 1 fro £66.73p one company took my details over the phone and phoned back within 2 hours comfirming they owed us the refund. the other firm took 4 phone calls and 6 emails but they eventually sent the refund, again a very big thank you to MSE. we are now challenging the loan companies for ppi payments the outcome looks hopful,

I worte to All & Leic, where I hod my mort. from 03 to 05 and to RBS where I had it from 05 to 07.

I knew the figures from RBS as I kept the paperwork and with 5 days they sent me the £210;) (but no interest:( ) I claimed.

I didn't know the figures from A&L so asked them to confirm what the fee was when I took the mortgage out and what it was when I paid it off. Within 5 days I got a letter saying they'd look into it and a week later got a letter setting out the info. I'd asked for and a check for £190;) (but again no interest:( ) .

Interest aside what a great result. Thanks Martin!
  • I just registered for these forums just so that I could say thanks. As a result of this article, I was able to claim £160 back from Northern Rock, from the two mortgages I've had with them since 1997. If it hadn't been for this article, I'd have had no idea that it was possible to claim anything back at all, and the information you provided (together with the template) really did mean that it only took me about 15 minutes of work to get it sorted.

Your newsletter has provided me with lots of good deals and little freebies in the past, for which I am very grateful, but this is the first time that an email has been worth £160. My family and I were able to treat ourselves last weekend as a result! So I'd just like to give you my thanks.

If anyone is on the fence about trying to claim this fee back, don't be. It couldn't be any simpler.
  • Just to say thank you for this information - I have changed mortgages twice in the last 6 years and after much discussion with my husband and 30 minutes writing 2 letters on the PC we have managed to secure money from Britannia and Portman Building Societies and letters of apology - total refunded £132.50 - well worth it for 30 minutes work! Once again without the site and advice, we would never have been told and would be worse off and lining the pockets of companies that really do not need the cash as much as we the individuals do! THANK YOU!:rotfl:
  • This is my 2nd success with mortgage exit fees - first was with Alliance & Leicester last week - today i have received 2 cheques from Abbey National - we have had our mortgage twice with them in the last 7 years - 1st cheque was for £30 (not bad eh) and 2nd was for £126:j

    Thanks again!:money:

  • Hi, Wanted to share that I rang up Cheltenham and Gloucester saying I want to reclaim my old mortgage exit fee, they said no probs, I gave them my old mortgage ref number, they put me on hold, 3 mins later she said they are refunding £140 which includes interest. So We're well happy, that should pay a hefty chunk off our CC. :T

BTW this is my first post so hello everyone.
  • Hi there taken a long time had to go to customer relations re birmingham midshires re exit fee and then get letter today stating that they would refund difference of £50 but signing agreement stating in full and final settlement and i would not make further complaints against birmingham midshires, halifax or any other their subsidiaries. Dont wish to sign as have just filed a judgement against halifax visa regarding credit card charges as they refuse to refund.

I dont know of anybody else who has had to do this regarding mortgage exit fee.

Well, just rang up Halifax today regarding my very first mortgage i had with a previous partner back in 95 - 99 - We over paid by £10 but because it was a joint mortgage they will send me a cheque for a fiver. Better off in my pocket than in theirs though.

    thanks Martin and gang
