Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

Wrote to Bradford & Bingley on Thursday, reply back this morning saying that as a gesture of goodwill they are going to repay us £160. The charge in our 2003 mortgage contract which we remortgaged in 2006 was £75. I didn't have that information as I had shredded all the old mortgage docs so just sent a general letter saying that we thought we had been overcharged, quoting the actual amount we were charged but not even attempting a guess at the charges previously quoted. It worked anyway!0

Hi
took advice off this site and have just received a cheque for £250 from Northern Rock. No hassle and very prompt. If you have not already done this, then do it!0 -
rbs confirmed they'd refund the difference of £150 being the extra they'd charged above what was set out in the orig mort. agreement0

Thanks to m.s.e.
I downloaded the template letter & sent it off to the Abbey.
I got a reply back in 8days.
They needed to know, when i took out the mortgage & when i finish the mortgage. 7 days later i got a cheque for £175.00.
Thanks Martin.0 -
My wife and I downloaded the template letter for MEAFs and added our details. We then sent it to Nationwide on 8th May expecting a reply within 14 days as asked. Now, almost 4 weeks later we have heard nothing. We are not sure if we are just being ignored but as well as this cost we were charged a few hundred pounds more than we expected when leaving Nationwide as all our payments were up to date. Despite numerous calls no-one was able to give an answer! We were wondering if anyone has had a success or failure with this Building Society?0

Ok, I have a question, I changed my mortgage with Halifax to another building society yesterday, will I still have been charged a stupid MEAF or have they got their acts together and charge a reasonable fee now (I've had this morntgage for two years with Halifax) ?????
Also has anyone actually had any luck claiming from Intelligent Finance?

You mostly likely will have been charged a MEAF - you need to check how much it was and how it corresponded to the MEAF when you first took out the Halifax mortgage.0 -

How much were the MEAFs when you took out this mortgage (you can only claim the difference if you were charged more than this)0
