Called Halifax on Tues 29th May. Four minutes on the phone. Chq for £125 arrived today. Thank you everybody - wouldn't have made the call without the MSE Forum:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. hi we changed our mortgage to kensington at the time it did seem good and we were paying intrest only in which we thought it was capital and intrest anyway we had never been in arears untill my husband took ill on the 31st dec 05 he was on ssp and i phoned the morgage company to let them know they sent out details and forms for dr to sign the normal anyway as we thought the mortgage was being paid after a few months we found out that we were in areas and we agreed to pay £150 a month so cut along story short my husband was made retired under ill health july06 kensigton sent us a letter and they took us to court for eviction at this time we owed one thousand pounds not our fault as i say we thought the pp was paying full mortgage which was five hundred and seventy eight pounds anyway as we have done alot to our house we sold it where you can rent back so our landlord he bought it and now we rent it from him yes its heart breaking as we have lost our home and renting it now, the payment protection only paid 397 ponds a month and not the full amount so why do we pap pp we thought it would have been paid in full from the pp with hubby being made retired ill health he has chronic siatica and was a postman.
can we claim anything from kensigton and the bloomin charges they charge ie solitors fee court fee letter fee and they charge a monthly amount of £50 for being in areas please can anyone help us

Really pleased that I stuck to my guns and continued to write to Northern Rock complaining about fees. :j
Received a letter this morning (they are not accepting liability, of course!) offering £175.00 - really pleased and am going to accept.
Lets see how long it takes for the cheque to arrive!
Not at any point would N/R give me a breakdown of their costs!
Thanks Martin. This has really helped us out as June is a VERY expensive month for us!

Just received cheque for £193.00 from Lloyds TSB. I checked the original information when taking out the mortgage and it stated a closing fee of £50.00, actually charged £225.00. Refunded £175 plus interest of £18.00.0

Bank Of Scotland had me on hold 15 minutes, told me they wasn't sure whether I could claim back the mortgage exit fee ! I got transferred 3 times, I paid £195 last year when I switched and they've told me that that is their administration fee and I cannot claim it back, I originally took the mortgage out in 2004. Would anybody have any advice as to whether I am entitled to claim ?

Hi I have been reading through the thread but it is very long and can't find the info that i need, so I will ask!
I have changed my mortgage 3 times in the last 10 years ...twice with Halifax and once with Northern Rock. I can't find any of the original paper work so don't have a clue if I have been over charged. Where can I get copies of this info or do I simply contact the Lender and trust them to play fair?
TIA

Pleased to report another success with C&G - finished mortgage almost exatly a year ago, and using the template letter provided by this wonderful website, I rec'd a cheque from them for £135 about a week after I submitted the claim.
Another B-I-G "thank you" from a happy MSE-er!!

I repaid my mortgage with Birmingham Midshires five years ago. Using the template letter, I wrote to them and by return received an immediate "goodwill" refund of the £75 I had paid.0

I wrote to chelsea's head office (found using search engine) stating that I had switched mortgage in 07/2005 and that I felt they may owe me some money. Letter arrived about 10 days later with a cheque enclosed for £90.
Well done Chelsea for coming clean and a million thanks to Martin for this brilliant info'. Unless you try , you may never know - send that letter!Ste4mhammer0
