Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

I was claiming back a total of £415 from Northern Rock for two mortgages. They originally offered £105 which I politely declined. I asked them for a full break down of what the "Admin Fee" was for. I got a standard reply with the same offer and no break down.
I wrote again asking them to answer my questions and that I thought the amount of fees were not justifiable. I told them I wanted to go to the next stage of their complaint system.
I received another letter with the same standard lines out lining their position and still with none of my questions answered and more importantly a break down of their fees.
The letter did end with "However, it is not our intention to remain in dispute with our customers. As a result, I am willing to send you a cheque for £415. This offer is made for commercial reasons and without any acceptance of liability"
How pleased was I, so,it just goes to show that if you keep at them you might get lucky. As long as you are polite and professional with them I believe you can get results. Good luck out there and keep going it's well worth it.0 -

I had a morgage with Nat West. I moved house and changed morgage company in Jan 99. I was charged £225 by Nat West. I telephoned them, gave them my morgage number, was told I was entitled to £140 back. Within a week the money was back in my bank. No forms to complete and no letters received. So so easy. Thanks MSE0

I changed my mortgage last year so thought I'd have a go at this after reading the article. I was with Alliance & Leicester so phoned up their customer services department and logged my request, was given a reference number and waited!
The following Friday I called as I had heard nothing and apparently I had been sent 2 letters - 1 acknowledgement and a second telling me what I was entitled to but I hadn't received them so they said they'd send again.
Nothing for another week - but Friday came round again and I called! Went through the story and apparently a cheque had been raised and sent to me. As I hadn't received it they were going to cancel it and send another one.
Another week went by and still nothing, so Friday I called again! Same story, same format and this time they said they'd send it recorded delivery.
Another week - Friday phone call again! I was pretty disheartened now and actually accused them of lying to me and that I didn't believe they were sending me anything! So the result was £235 paid by BACS straight into my account and was there that night!!
So, persevere, keep on to them and you'll get your rewards! I did!0 -
After my initial phone call in March the cheque from the Halifax finally turned up last week and has been banked. As soon as it was escalated another £25 was put on top as compensation so not bad really considering anything was a bonus0

So I can send you a cheque for £75 please sign the enclosed........... etc etc
You cannot claim back the whole fee so the £75 seems correct I would say.0 -
I contacted the Halifax after getting the number from off this wonderful website. I was told that I needed the start and end date of the mortgage and the mortgage account number. A quick phone call to the local branch and I had all the information necessary. I spoke to them and was told I was due £100 but they needed 28 days to investigate. One week later received a cheque for £100. Cheers Martin!!
The toast proposed at our wedding was for "health, wealth and happiness". Our family may not have the health and wealth but we make up for it with the happiness:D

Just got back £175 cheque from Abbey. After my initial phone call to them they sent out a form and upon reading form it looked as though I wasn't going to get anything back, but filled it in and sent it off anyway. Less than a week later I have my cheque!0
