Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures
Comments
-
I wrote to Bradford & Bingley quoting the recent FSA statement on Mortgage Exit Administration Fees (MEAFs) and writing to complain about the charge on my account for £235.00 when I exited my mortgage contract with them in Aug 06. I told them that I wished to claim a refund of these charges.
Shortly afterwards I received a cheque for £210.00
Many thanks for your advice Martin.0 -
Received a cheque today for 125 pounds and fifty pence from Yorkshire Building Society................SWEET!
Many thanks0 -
After reading the article on here I too took Martin's advice and phoned the designated Halifax phone line to claim back my MEAF. Mine had jumped from £45 to £175 since taking out the mortgage, which I transferred last year to Abbey for a better deal. The Halifax were very good and could immediately say that I was owed £135, which they would send in a cheque within 28 days. I received the cheque today, it took around 10 days in total and 5 minutes on the phone. Thanks very much Martin!0

Just received a cheque today for £126 from Abbey National having followed Martin's advice to phone and ask. Guy on the phone couldn't have been nicer, sent us a form to fill in within a few days and within a week of us returning it we received the cheque - brilliant! NB Our fee had gone up from £99 to £225.0

I wrote two letters to reclaim fees from previous mortgages using your templates and had two successful refunds. One was from West Bromwich for a mortgage redeemed in 2004 and i received £135 and the other was from Abbey redeemed in 2002 for which i received the princely rebate of £4. Better than nothing and very satisfying.
Go on give it a try, it might just work.

Refund from Abbey
I phoned them up (phone number from Martin's list).
They sent me a claim form (3 days later)
It took 3 minuted to fill form in.
I posted the form.
I received a check for £126 in the post, three weeks later, plus options and guidance if I did not agree or wanted to claim more.
Thank you Martin

I have just made 2 phone calls and am nearly £200 better off. All I needed was the roll number of the mortgages and no forms to fill in. The Cheltenham and Gloucester worked out the refund and promised to pay the money into my bank acount within 28 days and the Halifax worked out how much but said that it would be passed to another department for verification but after that I would get a cheque in the post. It could not have been easier and I urge everyone to make the call if it applies to you.Everything you need is out there - you just need to ask..................:A0
